Kroger will sell due to its low stock price and the price should go up about$12 a share. Walmart will close all stores, rebrand to Neighborhood Markets, and reopen as non union. Kroger execs will get paid big bucks as well as shareholders. They will sell the Kroger stores that are close to Walmarts to satisfy govt requirements. It's a huge win for shareholders on both sides. Walmart and Kroger need this to compete with Amazon. Word of this is circulating heavy today after todays earnings release. I would ask your upper mgmt. about this.

Still don't believe it, but would love for Walmart to take over, and if they don't want a union, won't mind if they buy me out, and offer some lump some.
Until a source is linked to verifying these talks are taking place, I'm remaining highly skeptical as to the validity of this claim.
Kroger would stand to gain more from acquiring Walmart (which will pretty much never happen) than Walmart stands from acquiring Kroger. Walmart already has a far superior e-Commerce business model in place compared to Kroger and that's a key factor in competing with Amazon and other online marketplaces and retailers. Walmart's Supercenters offer a bigger, better and more of a "one stop shop" service than even the largest Kroger Marketplaces do and the Neighborhood Walmarts essentially serve the same role as Kroger Signature stores. Walmart already has a very expansive distribution network. Acquiring Kroger would not guarantee 100% of Kroger business would shift to Walmart because if you listen to some (although it's a pretty big some) Kroger customers, to them, Walmart is evil and will never shop there. I'm not even sure 75% of the Kroger customer base would go to Walmart - in the years I've worked for Kroger, one thing I've learned is there are plenty of customers that hate and despise Walmart with an absolute passion.
The overall cost to Walmart would be enormous to acquire Kroger and what Walmart would get in return wouldn't put the company in that much better of a position to compete with Amazon. If anything, it might put them at an even bigger disadvantage simply because the old grocery model is no longer as profitable or successful as it was years ago. The way people shop and how they shop has been changing and continues to change. Walmart has been quicker to react than Kroger has been and that has put Walmart in a better position to compete with Amazon than Kroger, Target, Safeway or any other competitor currently is, and that's why I don't see it likely that Walmart would gain much from acquiring Kroger.
A google news search for "kroger walmart" turned up zilch about potential buyouts, only that the two companies' stocks are suffering in the wake of Amazon's acquisition of Whole Foods.
Walmart will not be able to acquire Kroger due to being a BIGGER Monopoly...too many stores overlap and it would control too much of the US Marketshare. If anything I would think TARGET would be someone that might be interested! But saying that, someone that does buy someone else has to also acquire the DEBT.......
Everyone is worried about Amazon taking over the Grocery Business! You fail to realize, Amazon isn't really selling that many groceries now. Yes, they sell some packages of Produce, some Refrigerated Items...but everything else is shelf stable items. Does Amazon sell T-Bone Steaks? Fresh Seafood? Deli Sliced Meats? There are items customers expect fresh and most only buy after examining them. While Society is becoming more and more behind a computer, I do not see the Grocery concept going away.......hell most people dont plan their evening meals more then 1 hours before they make it.
Walmart will be seen as #1 buying #2 in Grocery sells....and would be completely blocked.......
If anyone might buy Kroger it would be a Non-Foods Mass Merchandiser (Target, Costco, TJX, Home Depot, Lowes) because these business don't overlap.....and they would be able to cross sell and save $ with consolidated Corp Departments.
I think it would be interesting to actually have TJX take over Kroger's Apparel Departments, Target could take over Kroger's Non-Foods size and make big improvements in Style and Hipness.......
Hopefully it happens. Maybe then managers will be trained to care about their jobs and will be trained to train the true meaning of of 'team work' and 'giod work ethic'
Hey, if you look carefully you will notice the first link (above) is 3 months old, the second link is an article that is 2 years and one month old. I wouldn't get excited about all the "rumors'. I think it might have even started by someone reading a post here or on another online board, and jumped to conclusions.
the OP on this thread mightjust be a troll that was wanting to see if he/she could start some wild discussion.
After all, the same general thing goes on with all the dumb email chain letters and hoax stories that circulate around the web. Ever been to snopes.com?
This rumour comes up from time to time-it won't happen because Walmart is very highly anti-union and would bust the Kroger unions if they had the chance
