At first I thought our F.E.S. (Front End Supervisor) was a friendly person but his true personality quickly showed. He's bitter, snips, some what rude. He does it all professionally but goodness it's like dealing with a constant complainer. He finds a new pet peeve every week/few days to complain about. He snips at us from the far side of the check stands to tell us "Don't do that." He has no mannerism when dealing with certain situations. He's snipped at me for what are legal returns according to company protocol. He plays genetic favorites. Tends to ignore certain individuals for their breaks. Legally only gives the lunch. I've only been working with him about eight weeks and I'm sick of it. Very rarely do I hear polite things from his mouth.

At my current store the F.E.S. operates self check while on duty. I've had some situations where I've had large returns and tried to get him involved. He wouldn't do it. He kept saying "You can do it." Only to be snipped and manager scolded the next day. There's been several times where when there is work to do he is no where to be present. No where to be found. Several times we have to page him to assist self ceck. If we ask who to page upfront to assist in the growing lines; he snips at us and says rudely "Let me do my job!"

Is there some thing I can do? Management keeps watching him closely but this makes him feel more difficult to deal with. Because his masculinity for his job is threatened.

I'm surprised he hasn't snipped at me for properly unloading the bottom of the basket but squatting/sitting down on the floor to unload it to the shelf and then getting up again. I will get a doctor's note from my chiropractor if I have to that says "You will give your employee the right to properly lift, bend twist and load/unload items according to proper lifting rules." I have told/will tell him if he's so bothered by it to get a signed note from management forbidding it. I have scoliosis from these dumb half shopping carts (pretty sure; didn't have it before I started working here) and there's not too many ways you can unload them for proper bending twisting, lifting rules...

Most FES I have worked with are snotty and obnoxious.  I think it is a characteristic Kroger wants to promote to that position.  Or, dealing with customers makes them that way.

First:  Stop complaining.  Do your job and try to keep up with his pet peeves no matter how stupid they are.  (Kill him with kindness).

Second:  If you are union, you are entitled to breaks per your contract.  Immediately file a grievance the next time one of your breaks are ignored.  If the shop steward is useless, contact the district union rep.  I refuse to skip breaks.

I am a department manager.  I always get attitude from the head FES when I am getting payroll corrections.    Basically, she wants me to buzz off.  I stand my ground and get my corrections.   I am not going to argue with her but I will get what I want.  The other service desk employees don't give me any issues.
