I was asked by my back up manager to reveal the King's Hawaiian display in the front by our chicken shop. And naturally I go to do so(even though we have boxes upon boxes up on that shelf and I can barely reach the boxes I need without being on tip toe on the step ladder), move the step ladder out the way and one leg nearly slides out from under me. But I thankfully caught myself and stayed upright. But when I go to swing the bread cart out of the way(same one I've been moving around just about all morning pretty much). BAM! I am ass over elbows on the ground looking up at the ceiling.

I'm fine, other than some mild stiffness and dull aches to the back and my left side(will soak in some Epsom salt, as I have to do truck tomorrow anyway). And thankfully I didn't smack my head on the floor. But still, just a prime example of what I've been saying to them for weeks now. That the slip resistant shoe covers aren't effective worth a damn! And although I'm not the most graceful person. Having slipped and was on the ground for a few minutes there(and nobody peeping in to at least check and see if I was alright), one would think that maybe it's time for them to maybe find a way to get some floor de-icer or something available. Just for safety purposes alone in the future!

I'm so sorry to hear about the accident, and glad you are going to be OK (glad that you weren't seriously injured!)   best of luck to you! Just make sure you have an accident report completed, with all details.

It's good to hear that you didn't get seriously injured. All of us really have to be extra careful, because the fact of the matter is, Kroger doesn't care one bit about employee safety and so we're pretty much on our own while we work. I used to be on STAR Safety and heck, was even the STAR Safety Lead and I ultimately removed myself from the team because I could see first hand that Kroger's "Safety First" and "It's Not Okay to Get Hurt at Work" and other slogans or whatever you want to call them, amounted to nothing more than just hollow words - much like a lot of the other stuff this company puts out. Kroger's "STAR Safety" is nothing but a pretense to make it appear the company cares when, in fact, it truly does not. Unsafe freezers with ice build-up, equipment that is either faulty or in disrepair, unrealistic productivity standards without sufficient hours/staffing that can result in accidents due to being in such a hurry, and so on. It's going to get even worse now that the holidays are upon us. No matter how fast or hard they push you to work, don't let them push you so hard that you're put in a position where you or somewhere else is more likely to be injured!

Thanks and I didn't even realize I had to fill out a report on it. My back up manager didn't even say nothing about one of those other than the fact that she has done it countless times and at least asked if I was okay. Where or whom would I speak with to fill one out? I'd hate to get a write up for NOT filling one out as no one mentioned it to me when it happened in the first place.

Thanks and I can believe it about their slogans being hollow. I swear I don't know how many times they had us fill out that our DH went over safety stuff with us, when it has never once really happened. They just want the i's dotted and the t's crossed when it comes to that stuff, but don't really seem to care who is actually learning about this particular stuff.

I mean until our previous back up manager saw me one time standing on one of the blue pallets(and I wasn't goofing off, but was trying to slide a box of dough closer my way and it wasn't budging going the other way), no one had ever told me about NOT standing on those when I got hired on. They were just like, "aren't you done with truck yet?" Like, glad your uber concerned about me getting hurt. Don't worry I'll handle getting some tetnus and keep on slaving away for ya. Good grief.

For that matter, it also reminds me of the time I cleared off one of the deli pallets on the floor. Another blue one, and I guess while I was in the back putting stuff away. My DH must have stood the pallet upright and slid it behind the counter. Well when I get done with putting stuff away and didn't quite notice it over by the far left slicer(as a couple of customers had come up and I was focused on them). Well low and behold, I get a customer that wants some cheese sliced and that is when I noticed the blue pallet sitting up right by the slicer and I'm just about to say who put that there. When one my store's STAR team people was getting in my face and saying, "You know I could fine you $10,000 for that sitting up like that". And I'm like I didn't even put it there(albeit thinking it was my DH at this point, as he will start things, cutting cakes, icing something, stocking something, and the other half is still lingering around as he never cleans up after himself. Kind of what he is known for most days). And yea, the dude is going on about how "lucky" I should be cause he was just getting off and would take it to the back for me and all this crap. And I'm like, "If I get fined then the DH needs to get some of that as well." Because as is, I was in early that day for Deli and was trying to help get caught up with Grab-N-Go stuff and watching counter, while the other lady I worked with that day packaged salads in the back and do other stuff. And it was just the two of us for a long while that morning. Til DH came in, and is like, "Hey,(insert my name here), could you take care that stuff on the pallet?" Which I did. But Deli doesn't even get a hand jack until bakery brings it down with the rest of the pizza, chicken, and sub shop supplies that comes in truck. So even still, not like I could have ran back to the back dock and got a jack and even once back there, found somebody to help me lift the damn thing where it needs to be. So yea in a word, I wasn't a happy camper that morning either.

As for not rushing. I do try my best not to, not just for safety reasons. But if you have seen any of my other threads and posts on here. I tend to mention very often how my fellow "co-workers" find so much time yapping about this and that. And yet, they expect me to run around like a chicken with it's head cut off to make up the difference in their work in spurts and stops spells. And I don't know what it is, but they keep on adding things onto me being the floor setter each time I do it. Maybe to ensure that I'm running around trying to get everything done. Or just another example of the sabotage I mentioned in another thread. And for sure, with the holidays upon us, I'm really going to be careful. We have freaking 6 U boats plus a dough cart and two back up cake, cupcake, 2 slice, etc. carts in there as well. So not trying to jinx myself. But I am going to be hella careful, cause I don't need to run into anything, have anything fall from a really high shelf that is stacked too high, or even me falling off the ladder. Most especially that last one.

Just how much ice is on the floor?  Actually, there shouldn't be any.  If there is, it means the defrost cycle isn't working properly or the door is being left ajar while the fan is running.  Maybe there's a leak around the door.  Do your freezers have door switches that automatically turn off the fans when the door is opened?  Our freezer has two doors.  One door has a switch on it.  The other one doesn't.  If the door with the switch is closed and the other door is left open, the fans will run and frost will form over everything since the other door is open.

Other than a big thick strip in front of where the cookies and pies are(which is also located right below the fans), there is no real ice build up, save for around the opening of the door. I will admit though we do keep the door open a lot throughout the day. And only real time that it gets closed up for a little while, is when we need to get back to the sink or need the cake domes, wipe alls, or the dishwasher. Not quite sure of a leak, but I do know someone said all the ice and frost build up around the door broke the floor or something on it going into the freezer. Yea, we have the auto door switches to turn off the fans. And we also use this big magnet on the outside catch to make the freezer think the door is closed when it's open, so the alarm doesn't go off. Lucky to have enough space for two doors at your store. Although, now that I think about it, the peeps I work with can barely handle one door. Let alone too.

I should update and say that I don't know if they put something on the floor or opted to close it more. So that the floor was actually bone dry when I came in yesterday. Would have been great if they had done something like that sooner.
