And the end result is that we need to wash our hands more....I really hope they don't print stuff out like that for the customers to read anywhere. Cause that would make it sound like we aren't keeping up with our hygiene or something. And I know for sure that isn't the case in the bakery. Dealing with so much sticky stuff down there, you pretty much HAVE to wash your hands all the damn time. Or you would be super glued to something.

Anybody else experience any such evaluations when Ecolab and the health department came through?

ecolab - be sure its not a critical or you will get a writeup

health department - everything better be in tip top shape or they can shut the whole store down

If all they found wrong was employees not washing their hands enough... all I have to say is, well, wow. You must definitely work at one of the cleaner Kroger stores! I've worked at Kroger stores where visits from EcoLab resulted in multiple page print-outs of things wrong throughout the store.

Well that was just what they said for bakery. Not sure of the rest of the store though. But as much as they crack down on us cleaning and so forth, they definitely want to keep it as tip top shape as possible. Hell to the point my DH even said a few times, he would like us to keep it as clean as when we first moved in. But I still say that is highly unlikely. That alone would take at a team effort and that we ain't got.

How often do they expect to wash your hands?  Did they catch people not washing their hands after returning from break or when they showed up for their shift?  Did someone blow their nose and then not wash their hands?

lol....what a joke. that sounds like something a parent would say to their child. "wash your hands more often, dear!" puh-lease! as if my hands aren't already dry and brittle from work.

Back up manager didn't say. But what is so strange is the fact that when the Eco dude was going through, I WAS washing my hands!!! I had pretty much been cutting on a lot of pumpkin roll that morning. And was getting all that cream cheese filling and powder from the gloves off my hands. So I guess unless he didn't see other people doing that(which I don't see how he could, as the time he came through, it was just me and the truck person in there til the back up manager came in a hour later. And neither of them needed to clean their hands, in regards to what they were doing), I have no idea where he would even come up with something like that. I'll most likely have to ask more in-depth what the guy meant. Cause in any given day I can tell you in all seriousness I believe I would have washed my hands 5 to 7 times throughout the day.

Since he started with the deli part of the department, then he probably did see a few folks that just changed gloves without washing their hands. As some people do, that at times as they hate how much more the powder from the gloves clumps up on your hands between each new pair. But even when I'm down there, I wash my hands between glove changes always. Cause the powder makes my hands really itchy. And even though we do have the powder-less gloves they are just too loose to keep on my hands when doing stuff. So I opt for using the ones with powder instead.

I know right?! I swear I've washed my hands so much that the backs of my hands start turning into alligator skin, cause they are so dried out. But honestly it just reminds me of how I was told once, even if you are in tip top shape they will come up with anything to ding you for it. As the hand washing thing is just too silly for words at times. Especially for a department that ALWAYS washes their hands from the time we get in there til the time we leave. If anything, I would have expected more commentary on all the hair being under the hair net. As I know even though we have a hair restraint notice up on our freezer door. There are still plenty of people that wear their bangs out(I don't, I even bobby pin my hair back so it will all fit and STAY under the hair net). But the hand washing thing is uber silly.

Please keep this in mind:  Ecolab MUST find things wrong, every time.   They MUST find things wrong, no matter how clean and perfect a dept is.......... otherwise they will be suspected of NOT DOING THEIR JOB!!   (Like managers, coordinators, etc) .    If ya know what I mean.............

I get that. Even though it sounds shady and kinda crooked...but I did mention he could have brought up the hair thing again if he wanted to truly ding us on something.

Ecolab is just to check your following the rules, I have heard of stores getting AWESOME scores! The HEALTH DEPARTMENT looks for any little defect, it would be interesting to see what EcoLab didn't see, but Health Department called you out on ! Specially if Health Department came right after Ecolab!

EcoLab was never into the "inspection" part of the job as they only use it as a means to earn more money, as they were primarily a cleaning supply seller and distributor, but then sometime way back when, someone flipped the coin and said "hey lets get into the audit side" and bang! Ecolab now "auditing" tons of places, not just Kroger. They honestly shouldn't of gotten so big like they have, as then it would only be the HD you'd have to deal with, but now since they answer to Corpo as well through their contracts, all they see is money to be made. And it's not a coincidence the HD shows up right after Eco. They do it on purpose. At my last warehouse job, OSHA would show up right after or with Code Enforcement for an inspection / tour. it was deliberate as OSHA had primary enforcement authority and could easily issue the large fines.(>3,000 - 15,000 dollars per offense)

Well if your Ecolab visit was horrible, the inspector might have called them. (specially if there's the same items on the report and they are big issues)

At least you had a day in between. They came one right after the other that particular morning. And even when our DH or back up managers weren't in yet. So I don't know what that was about. But seemed rather suspicious like to me.

yeah, and we actually had a really good ecolab score, so maybe that's why the health dept. came? To make sure the audit was correct?

No clue. The things that happen in and at Kroger are always a mystery to me at times.
