Grocery backup?

Im considering trying to get into a backup position in the future. What would I need to do to put myself in a good position to get it? Im well informed on using cao and am the only person outside of the grocery manager who follows the process, scans my own backstock, runs it daily, lows and holes etc and orders my own aisles. Everyone else just throws and conditions and leaves, I always stick around to finish unless I absolutely have somewhere to be as well. Is there some sort of training Id need beforehand?

You have the qualities that make a good back up.  You are eager to learn and do things well.  Most people work grocery because they need somewhere to be.  Most people let the Grocery manager to do all the critical thinking because they can't or refuse to think for themselves.

What aisle do you normally run?  How long have you been in Grocery?

Out of 14 people on night crew, I have 6 people willing to help order the store.  We have one of the better stocked marketplace stores in the district.  All except 3 scan backstock.  Two are new and I am not sure if one is capable of understanding cao.

It's actually so hard to find any new backups for any department nowadays unless you're in the nicest and well staffed store there is. Otherwise job bids go unfilled every week. Nobody hardly wants to rise because they don't want the stress or responsibility. Backup positions are even worst because backups have to get qualified before they can start making the Appropriate rate and most people don't want to do the work of a DH and only get clerk rate. It really is a f'd up system but if you think you can do it go ahead and put in for some stores, even if it is a really bad one. Because you have to start somewhere  and those kind of stores are more likely to give someone with little or no experience a chance and you have to take it.
