When I 1st started working for Kroger in 1970 as a high school part timer it was fun working there. I went full time after finishing High School. working on the stock crew, and it was still a fun place to work for, But when Kroger started moving more into the computer world as far as putting them in the store, as a of ordering products, things started to change, we even took a pay cut in the 1980's to help Kroger during the hard times, then things started to go south from there. Around the year 2004 when things started to get worse, Kroger started demanding that full time workers must work 1 late night to help take care of customers, that didn't go good with the workers. Since then it has got worse, by cutting back on the help each department gets, putting more works on the workers, after having a accident at work falling on my hand and needing surgery, I was off 1 year and Kroger was trying to fire me, cause of all the money they were out on me. So I finally retired after 44 years, and would not even let my sons work there when they grew up. There is so much pressure to work there if you are in charge of a department like I was. Rules at Kroger changes every day. I was told by my 25 year old manager that my 40 years at Kroger didn't mean anything to him. This is just the tip of the ice berg. Sorry this has been long. but I have a lot bottled up inside me.

I am glad that you are getting out of Kroger. I have almost 31 years and I am ready to retire. Kroger used to be a great place to work but no more. I agree with you that Kroger changed for the worse in 2004. These baby managers needs to be smacked the way they treat us older employees that has made Kroger great. When the older employees finally retires  I am afraid that kroger will go downhill. I am making plans to finally sign my retirement papers next year. I can not wait.

Kroger didn't like it when I sued them and won $48,000 on my law suite.

Hi James,

I'm glad you got out. But I'm sorry that you HAD to. That the job had changed from being fun and fulfilling to something we just endure.

You are very right, I worked the Dairy Department for 38 years, getting dairy loads 6 days a week and milk deliveries 3 times a week, so Tue. Wed. and Sat. I would get 2 loads a day, with most times with both trucks being backed up to receiving at the same time .
