I went home with my feet sore. Not because of standing all day, well, yeah. But because my feet were half frozen for half of my shift. And I'm at the front end, inside.... Lord knows the hell the courtesy clerks doing carts have to go through. Guess I'll have to buy winter boots or something, cause these sneakers aren't cutting it.

It's like my blood was partially frozen. Even my lungs were sore. My whole body is sore. I hate single digit weather. Please don't go negative. Please!

Lol. I work in the back end of a concrete block building with heat that is barely functional. Some nights it's colder in our receiving bay than in our perishable coolers.

Your store is hell, I'm surprised someone hasn't made a cart corral (covered) their home.

yeah, it's been frigid around here. it dropped below 0 the last 2 days. i might as well be working in frozen foods, because most of the product delivered to us is ice cold. i curse anyone who leaves the bay door wide open in receiving, and the break room is much colder than the sales floor despite being located upstairs. our vestibule is soaking wet from people tracking in slush, and i'm sure the floor guy is a thread away from an aneurysm with how caked on with filth the floor is.

Feels great this time of year. By June and July I'll want to kill myself because it'll be 100+ degrees in there at night. Makes breaking down a Peyton truck really fun.

One of my Service Desk Supervisors (this person is basically someone I consider to be the Front End Lead's second in command when FEL is not present) has told both us UCs and cashiers specifically they will yell at us if we are out for more than 15-20 minutes in this extreme cold or if we do something extremely stupid. And boy do they mean it. "You think I'm old, I'll still kick your butt." Yea they are one of the peeps to be on the nice end of, otherwise it's known if you get on their bad side. I once accidentally did 40 minutes on an extreme heat day during summer with another UC, and as soon as I walked in "UC151, were you n X out there this whole time!" "Well yea we didn't think it was that long though" "Get in the cooler both of you, and i mean right now. You two should of been rotated a while ago. Now go, take at least 10 minutes, and don't come back here til those 10 minutes are up. Got it?" "Got it Y, no prob."

yea never piss off your superiors, it's not fun.

I like your supervisors...They sound like people not to mess with and they're doing it for your own good!

I've known some older workers like this, and they've been around the block a few times and know better! You would be stupid not to listen to their advice, either! Pretty much, ignore them at your own peril!

Pretty much, but add to the fact the Service Desk n CSRs / Front end Lead are directly responsible for our (UCs) well being by policy of position, they don't want to get management's eyes on them if we come back in sick / frozen / and / or puking as then it falls to the Company for employee safety / health. That results in a not so fun meeting with all parties and the Union / District possibly. So technically it's not only their advice, but orders as well.

After 2 years now, I've learned a lot about our policies an such so I know when I am nearing the threshold, but one supervisor a few days ago told me to do 30 minutes on carts in the cold, and Service Desk Super (same one) was not happy with me after finding out I'd been out for 45 minutes and lightly gave me a smack on the back and said "What have I told you?" "15 minutes." "Exactly, now get that jacket off and don't ever do that again, you know better. Don't listen to CSR U even if she tells you to, or you and I are going to have a talk, understand." "yes Y, understood." Yea I don't want to have a talk with the super, I've had 1 before and it's not pleasant at all, it's worse than being talked to my by my Lead and almost like being reprimanded by management, but they are nice about it and also lay the law down heavily at the same time though.

I've argued with CSR U once though and just didn't want to try again as they n I got into a verbal disagreement and nearly involving management. But I might challenge them again if they pull something similar next time. I am just unsure of how much fallout will arise, if any.
