End of shift, gotta shutdown Uscan. I'd like to know you guy's tips and techniques on shutting down Uscan when it's time to do so, and getting customers to go to the other checklanes (or in my store, the other open Uscans in addition to the cashier checklanes), without pissing customers off.
Every so often, not every day, just once in a while, I get a customer who gets pissed that I'm shutting down the Uscans, even though I tell them there's other Uscans open.
I try and find the right target time to start shutting them down based on how busy it is. I've always been going on 10 minutes before end of shift. But, I kinda suck on judging how busy it is, so there's been times I started at 10 minutes before, and then in the last 5 minutes a bunch of customers come out of nowhere expecting to use the Uscan, and I've already shutdown half of my Uscans, yet they see my last customers (all the lights are off), and then get pissed at me cause those customers are using them and not them. And yet I tell them the other Uscans are open, but they don't like that.
Shutting them down 30 minutes before would be too early, and then I'd have like 10 or 15 minutes of just standing around doing nothing with the Uscans closed. And I don't think the managers would like that.
Can you physically close off the entrance to the u-scan section to keep people from entering?
We used to have these big sign stands that would say this "self checkout area is closed, please use our other self checkouts" and then we'd have those belt things (can't think of their name) in addition to the signs. But in the past 3 months, they took those away to be used elsewhere.
Actually, this Uscan area is pretty much the main passthrough area for the main door. And we've tried closing off the entire Uscan area, but then people would get pissed that they can't get through, and some would actually move the belt thingies.
And since now they block the little space between the service desk and the Uscan, the Uscan is the main area for people to walk through.
