So I make 8 an hour right now, and am currently listed according to Express HR for an 8.85 pay increase in june, however my next job step is 0500, which if i remember correctly is top out. My union contract however, states for any Utility Clerks employed after 3 years, 9.05 and we are topped then. But my contract is also due to be renegotiated soon after. So what the heck does Express HR mean if my top out is different then what is listed as the official pay scale according to contract? Should I talk to union / management or both with this and see what's up?

Yes! Talk with your Union, HR, and GM at the same time. Find out why you would be topped out by 8.85 or 9.05 an hour. Maybe it is because of your work effort or ethic. Maybe it is the Union contract you signed. If it is your work effort or ethic, you still have time to change it. Find out what you need to do to change it.
