AZ Night Crew Cases per hour
Permalink

This isn't for me this is for co workers and couldn't find a answer.

We have a lazy grocery manager that's a dick, liar and doesn't know how to talk to people. He tares people down and threatens to fire them instead of encouraging and building people up. Crew Chief does the same and acts the same way.

I will say this tho I have been working grocery days/nights for 13 years " 3 company's and countless grocery managers" and have never had a issue with any of them until this guy. Put this in perspective I throw 100-120 "just throwing" cases per hour depending on product and was told I need to go faster and if not I would be terminated.

Everybody on the crew works no one is standing around and everyone is passed there probation period and in the union some are faster than others.

Management wants to fire some employees because their not "fast enough". Is this even possible or legal? What is the company standard if there even is one?

I am guessing you are in Arizona?   Are you a union store?

Ask the night manager where the DDP survey is posted.  Should be near communication center for center store.  Next to that should be a large sign that says 55 cases per hour.

That is throwing stock only directly from pallets while rotating product of course.  Does not include breaks, conditioning, helping customers, receiving, changing bales or cleaning up a mess.

But, pallets do not arrive aisle friendly so we have to step up the pace.

The best test for cases per hours is the canned aisles or condiment/international aisles.

Pet food, paper, detergent and drink aisles go quicker.  Just heavier items.

If out of probation, they can't fire you under our contract for being too slow.  Your contract may be different so be careful.  They can find other ways to terminate you tho.

If the night manager isn't getting the work done, he can be demoted.  If he pisses everyone off, they can turn on him and let him take the fall.

Purchase policy, taking long breaks, dress code, not following directions by following key retail practices.

They have to do progressive write-ups before they can fire someone under most contracts.

I am curious what aisles you are throwing 100 cases/hour in.

With more info, I can try to figure out what 100% productivity is.  I am familiar with the metrics expected from the night crew.  Eschedule budget always says we have plenty of time.  The DDP says we don't have enough time.  I know for a fact there is never enough time to get everything done especially when given extra tasks due to special visits from VIPs.  lol.

That is throwing stock only directly from pallets while rotating product of course.  Does not include breaks, conditioning, helping customers, receiving, changing bales or cleaning up a mess.

It also does not include:

Picking up plastic off the floor

Bagging/baling plastic

Stacking and loading empty pallets onto a salvage trailer

Repeated walking across a store to unlock the door so associates can report to work at all hours of the night/morning

Unblocking fire exits

Clearing walkways of hazards such as forks on improperly parked lifts

Struggling with non-maintained pallet jacks

Sweeping up wood shards so jacks can travel under load

Putting away perishable Dairy, Meat, and Produce deliveries

Responding to FAST alerts

Answering phones and letting in delivery drivers

Rebuilding pallets from other departments' products which cover ours

Ordering (for leads, ADHs, department heads, and clerks filling those roles)

Building endcaps in one shift (for leads, ADHs, department heads, and clerks filling those roles)

Attempting to get by without supplies like blades and cutter sheaths due to the failure of management to provide the tools that are called for

Sorting KMP (Kroger-made product) before attempting to stock it

Tell me, which of these items would management be content to have ignored, neglected, and not done?

If they are going to demand all these things, management is going to have to have the intellectual honesty to admit that time is needed to perform these tasks, that the easy, simple, 55-CPH metric is simplistic, not inclusive, and just not honest.

Frys grocery manager here.

I would live to know who your grocery manager so I can give you an honest to god answer about who they are but I know I'd never want to end up throwing myself under the bus.  Maybe it's me you're having trouble with lol.  Maybe say what district?

I just basically wrote an essay or your job vs mine....it turned into a rant so I deleted it.

Serious though if your properly throwing 100 cases an hour then you're good.

Also don't underestimate your grocery managers day.  We're under tremendous pressure and have the most demanding job in the store...and it keeps getting harder.  We're all grumpy and exhausted and working with a short fuse.  Don't take it personally.

Let me know if you want to transfer to north Phoenix lol.
