UFCW75 sold us out.

I been a strong union supporter all my life.  I work my ass off and try to take care of my fellow employees as if they were brothers and sisters.  But i'm hearing the ufcw75 contract passed and its making me rethink our union completely.

I live in a right to work state and i feel like the union basically sold us out today.  I am seriously considering opting out as we are in a right to work state and the union has done nothing for me.  Atleast until our ineffective and weak leadership is replaced.

Replace your weak and ineffective leadership through union elections.

(We in Local 1000 need to do the same.)

I have been in the ufcw75 for 31 years and I voted no on the contract yesterday. The second tier of clerks hired after 1986 only got 1.20 over three years. Department heads got 1.60 I over three years. Why couldnt clerks got 1.60? I was told by a union official that Kroger came to the union wanting to open the contract because they they could not keep new people because of low starting wages. I can understand that but all of older people had to work forever to get to 10.00 a hour. We worked our way up the wage ladder and now new people starts out at 10.00 a hour and they will be up to old timers wages a lot quicker now. Union should had gave us a raise of 1.60 over three years because we have always waited so long for a decent wage increase. I voted no because the union did not let the members know they talking with Kroger about the contract. We should had meetings with the membership about this before the union started pushing for this to be passed. We got this contract out of the blue before we had a chance to absorb it. I am wondering what the union got from Kroger for pushing this contract. i have felt for a long time that our Union is in Krogers pocket. I am still trying to figure everything out in this contract that wS passed by 76% yes votes of the membership.

Kroger and the union played the quantity over quality game they probably sweet talked the newbies in a big pay raise cause in the end Kroger's goal is to get rid of the old timers.

Could someone explain to me the whole seniority/claiming hours thing?  Did I understand people are going to be able to go into any department and just claim hours from anyone with lower seniority?  To me that sounds like it could become a chaotic free for all.

Is it true that kroger wants new uniforms for us but they going to make us pay for them? I do not remember hearing that at the meeting. Somebody made that remark but I do not remember it.

I spoke to about four associates at my store about this new contract. And they all seemed pleased about it.

The information I was provide, it didn't seem like the contract was too one-sided. Healthcare is going to going up PERIOD! If anyone with Union Insurance asks anyone working somewhere else, they will point blank tell you its high quality low cost. It does suck that it took most long term associates years to get to $10.00 an hour, but that is the going wage now. Bumping I do not think will be that big of an issue, post people are in departments that they desire or they would have already transferred to that department. In reality it will just make departments have to work together more and have more transparency before new associates are hired. The only way this company is going to survive is hiring associates and them gaining full time status and them wanting to be there.....for years it was all about paying less and cycling associate after associate.

If anything, the company should have negotiate something to ban the introduction of Instacart into the stores or Kroger partnering......

As far as the uniforms, it was explained to me this way:  uniforms will no longer be required or provided.  We will be wearing denims or khakis, any solid colored top, and blue vests that the company provides.  Or, in my case, the green Starbucks apron.

Kroger is the Union and the Union is Kroger.  If you actually do your research you would see that most of the union representatives and officials are Former Kroger employees.  Unions are there to help themselves not the employees.  They give themselves raises while raising our dues but failing to fight for more pay.  UNIONS ARE USELESS!!!
