I took one of the positions thinking it was the people and now im feeling ways that mean im going to quit this evil company. 6 years of my life later. Exploiting the poor for profit. These people should be tried criminally. Instead store manager got promoted.
The company intentionally runs their stores 15% understaffed. Thats the line they found between better production for stressing you out and suicide by stressing you out. Worker happiness is irrelevant.
The above crack about the 15% profit : suicide ratio was funny, but there's truth in that post. Studies have been done that demonstrate cost/profit effectiveness of pushing limits on staffing and resources, and it is true: human compassion and respect have nothing to do with today's business climate at all.
For management it's all about their bonuses based on saved payroll and increased slales , and if they're not generating a certain percentage, they themselves are put through the meat grindrer process.

I'd contact the Kroger ethics board and tell them what happened. They'll get on top of your store and make positive change. Expect a union manager meeting in the middle. It either happens fast or within three to six weeks. I did it at my last store because no one was happy and customers verbally harassed us beyond normal civilized conversation. Bull*** the customer is not always right in this situation. It's discriminatory harassment.
