Kroger Deli Worker Job Description Example

Deli Workers must be able to work speedily, especially during rush hours.

The primary duty of a deli worker is to take care of the counter at the deli section of the Kroger store.

His/her job description entails making meals and sandwiches.

A deli worker at Kroger is expected to be fast when rendering his/her services, especially at the peak hours of the day, like during lunch and dinner, or occasionally during holidays.

He/she arranges, prepares, serves, and stocks the kitchen with food items and deli products.

At Kroger a deli worker is also expected to assist in washing dishes and keeping the food preparation area very neat.

It is within his/her work description to engage in tasks such as cutting vegetables, receiving grocery shipments, and preparing different delicacies, including salads and soups.

His/her role also involves keeping inventory of the items he/she uses, and must inform the inventory manager to replenish the stock when it is running low.

He/she is also expected to assist in keeping the kitchen area neat and tidy.

The deli worker must have a good knowledge of menus to be able to understand each customers request.

In addition, he/she must be able to listen attentively to understand each customers request and sometimes be able to give suggestions.

Some of the meals prepared by a deli worker are done in front of the customer, like the sandwich. Therefore, he/she must be very fast so as not to keep the customer waiting for long.

A Kroger deli worker is also expected to be able to fulfill closing-minute requests. He/she must be able to prepare some meals as instructed by the customer. For instance, some customers may desire a less peppery soup, thicker soup, and cold instead of hot soup. Likewise, some customers may desire sandwiches with a little less or more cheese. Needless to say, a deli worker should be skilled in preparing the various delicacies that the shop offers to its customers.

Having food handlers permit is required in some states or cities. So, it is also necessary to check with the department of health in the city or state to know if such is the case in the city where you are seeking for the employment.

Are there really deli workers making soup from scratch? We don't make soup in ours so I'm assuming it comes prepackaged and they just heat it . So how are they supposed to make the soup less peppery? Suck out the pepper with a straw ?

"Delicacies"?????    Not quite the correct word to use when discussing Kroger deli department, in my opinion.   This isn't a French restaurant!   There is something vaguely odd about that "Job description'. Where did you get it? It sounds like something that might have been used 40 years ago when employees had more time to devote to their job, as far as using their creatitivity, etc, but today's Kroger deli is much more superficial paperwork-oriented, as prescribed by the ding-dongs in upper corporate.

He/she must "inform the inventory manager" when stuff is running low???  One of the duties of the deli dept head is to go around and actually SEE what is getting low, and order accordingly.

Also, the deli dept is almost NEVER "neat and tidy".........who has the TIME to keep it "neat and tidy" ??? .........  when we are running on a skeleton crew, customers are waiting in long lines, the chicken is over cooking in the deep fryer, the phone is ringing, a temp log needs updated NOW, piles of boxes need to be put on the shelves in the cooler, the expense cart hasn't been emptied, the dishwasher needs de-limed, the floor is slick and we have to watch our step, the chicken "hen house" on the sales floor wasn't wiped down properly last night and looks dirty, some of the salad bar tongs are dirty and need to be re-washed, etc etc etc.

Haha, that looks like a wish list, rather than current job requirements. Or as a poster above me said, something from times long gone. When grocery clerk was a profession.

Among other things, nowadays you can NOT require people to work "speedily". That would be "harassment" haha.

Not to be rude, but is this the actual job description they provide for what a deli clerk does at your store or during the interview? Dude every time I tried to look into what all the bakery was doing before I applied. I kept getting the generic run around about All associates assisting with baking, preparing, fresh breads etc. And then talking about floral and other stuff. But never nothing in detail.

Harassment for asking you to do what you're paid to do??? Customers want you to be fast. They don't want to wait because you're having a 10 minute conversation with another customer.

That would be the automatic dishmachine in all (if not most) Kroger delis that are mostly used  to wash the aluminum or hard plastic standard size sheet pans (used mostly by bakery and chicken shop), and other assorted metal and plastic pans and containers of various sizes and types, as well as serving utensils. Not normally needed for real "dishes" since there are few dishes (as in plates, bowls, saucers or other eating ware that would be encountered in a restaurant situation) used in most Kroger deli depts.

My Kroger has a salad bar.  (I think Only some of the larger Kroger stores do). And it is a  huge pain because of insufficient help and no time to keep it looking fresh and inviting for customers!

My home store has a dishwasher in the deli, but the store i'm at now doesn't. All 3 stores i've worked in though have had a salad bar, and one was a tiny store.

There's no way that deli clerk description is accurate in any store at all though.

That appears to be one of the HUGE NUMBERS of half-way phony websites that have been created for only one purpose: to encourage clicks (click bait).  Look along the top subject heading "buttons", they actually take you to an ad, and the entire page is PEPPERED with gobs of other links to ads.    I think they have copied and pasted some text from other sites..........

but hey, all you Kroger courtesy clerks, make sure you read YOUR "job description"!!!!!!

Yea, we have a dishwasher in both the deli and bakery. And for sure use them daily but it's only a few associates that know how to keep them clean and running like they should.

As for a salad bar, there is one across from chicken shop, but it's ran by the Produce peeps.
