Hi. I am being hired for a courtesy clerk at my local kroger. I have to go for a store walk through tommorow and I am worried about my first day. What will it be like? Is it a bad job? What is a Store Walk through?
A store walk through basically shows you where everything is so when customers ask you the location of a product you will know what aisle to direct them to. You will also see where the janitor's closet which is where mops and other cleaning supplies are kept when called to do a clean up after co-workers and cusotmers.
Your first day should go pretty smooth as long as someone (courtesy clerk) takes you under their wing and shows you the ropes. Basically you will be observing and doing hands on training. If you are unclear ask them to SHOW not just tell you if they can.
Bad job? Depends o. What you make of it and depends on your work environment. My store was ok, when I was a cc, I had a decent manager who took the time out to show me himself what needs to be done on my shift. Then, the next 2-3 days I spent on the computer. I made the mistake of saying "Mega-Kitteh is training" when called up front by a checker. They got pretty damned mad but changed when management told them I was in training.
But yeah, you are NOT supposed to say xxx is doing something else because the checkers and customers take it as saying "No. I'm too busy."
Memorize and remember where cleaning supplies and cart vests/straps are. Go easy on carts when you're on lot duty the first few times but don't leave a big mess. Learn bagging techniques from the others that have been there a while and use what works best . If you're doing any go-backs don't be afraid to ask where exactly they go. Bag in a rhythm. You'll find yourself going faster before you know it.
