This customer would ask for boxes & use them to steal.
Customer got caught telling different associates what the boxes was for.
Store Manager decided to follow & low & behold customer was stealing.
Store manager wanted to call police, but customer gave store manager a sob story.
So customer just got a warning but was banned from the store.
Sometimes management would "ban" shoplifters, but they come right back in after that manager got transferred.
Some proactive security guards will even call the police and get shoplifters and troublemakers formally trespassed, but that's maybe only one in twenty guards.
I remember a couple of customers who were banned. They got caught shoplifting and were given the choice of being banned or having the police be called on them. They chose to be banned.
I know this one homeless guy who got partially banned from the store. It was for begging for money. So he can't come in and shop, but is only allowed to come in and use the coinstar machine and cash the receipts.
For a while, we had a couple groups of petitioners who harassed our customers for signatures in front of our store. I'm pretty sure it was actually from two different organizations because sometimes they were Democrats and sometimes they were Republicans. Even weirder, it was about some local election in a city that our town was only a suburb to, so a lot of people coming in and out of the store wouldn't even have been eligible to sign. Our manager had the police called on them at one point, but some would still show up and stick mostly to the parking lot.
Maybe it was just perfect timing, but I like to think that the reason they eventually stopped showing up is that the girl scouts started selling cookies in front of our store, and they didn't want to look like *******s trying to compete with them for signatures. It was more likely that the election was over, or they'd been intimidated with too many police encounters, but those aren't as fun.

Hi, how are you today?
Did you find everything okay?
Haha, "more than that", that joke is still funny, hahaha.......

Your manager must be pretty tolerant. Our manager does NOT tolerate stealing. Period.
One customer tried giving "sob story" when she was caught stealing formula and diapers. (She had no kids)*
Manager said no and called the police and she got arrested for stealing and violating parole.
Result: taken away in cuffs fighting the whole way cursing everyone out. She was PISSED!
I helped clean the stuff she threw during her horrific tantrum.
One story I do have that is bad, was a manager thats was always gun ho about catching people stealing. Got fired for stealing $800 worth of stuff a day. Manager wouldnt do it all the time, but the store noticed a pattern that every time the manager caught somebody stealing what ever the amount was only half was returned to the store. It was crazy because that manager would risk life catching people stealing. The store joke was now we know why the manager was the way that manager was cause people wasnt stealing from the store, they was stealing from the manager.
i had just stepped in to check to take another young female's spot as she was going home. two raggedy looking customers were talking about how 'gorgeous' she was and called past me to try to talk to her/ask her out. as cringey as it was i continued scanning
what i didnt realize is that those customers started taking pictures of both her and my underage bagger, if i had known i would have stopped scanning their **** and called a manager
but we did get them on camera and apparently they are banned from all the kroger stores in the city or whatever
