I was recently asked "What our Deli/Bakery can do to improve and work as a Team?"
1) Management can actually do their job and make others do theirs.
2) Reward hard work (the ones who work are are the ones being treated like crap, while the ones who do next to nothing, but talk and stand around, get rewarded.
3) Union can make a change when it comes to some of the rules in seniority. (Like if you're not doing your work, then your hours should be cut, if you are doing your work and doing it WELL your hours should be raised)
4) First shift can clean up after themselves, so that second shift doesn't have to clean first shifts mess up before they can do their own jobs.
5) First shift can also stop going deaf when they here it's time for the garbage run.
6) The staff should be made to do the checklist to show they have done their job.
7) If someone didn't do something (avoids it, just too lazy, pretends they don't know how, etc) they should be retrained to do it until they do it without being lead. Another words, they shouldn't be left alone (even the last hour) until they prove they can do the job.
8) What is required of one should be required of the others (with exception of the Lead position).
9) Have more Indians and less Chiefs
10) When they come in for their shift they should be assigned a job and be "The One" responsible for getting that job done.
11) If management wants the last person to make sure the whole department is clean and equipped for morning shift, they should give us the time to do so. If they want Deli to serve customers until 10p they should schedule the closer to be there til 11p.
12) if management wants the displays to stay full, they need to make sure Leads have the right amount of everything in stock.
I could add so much more, but why don't we start here.
that sounds awful, i know a lot of our deli employees are rude, some of them are really nice. i thought about leaving a survey saying so and so was rude but i didnt want to get attacked
i dont think kroger is ever going to give departments what they need and the front end is pretty anal on that account in my opinion
our deli has had to close early before because they were understaffed

I've worked both early and late shifts in the bakery. I've always accepted that part of working late and closing is cleaning up. It never bothered me to have to wash cake utensils or wipe off tables. I just took it as part of the job.

It doesn't matter if you leave it or not, you're going to get attacked anyway. The only way for anything to change is to keep bothering the ones who can change it. I'm not liked by many of my managers, but they know I do my job and I do it the best. I'm a pain, but I'm right about what I say. This is why they want me gone at the same time know they need me to stay. Just leave the survey. At least they've been told.

This is like a page right out of the book of my life. ... I've gradually evolved to a place where I just don't much say anything to anyone any more, keep my head down, my mouth shut, and do my job. Only time management hears from me is on the rare occasion one of em will try blaming me for other's negligence, at which point I'll have saved proof of where they need to be looking. And you're right, it doesn't make us popular, but nor do we give a s h i t.

Let me add one more: STOP HIRING SPECIAL NEEDS PEOPLE!! We have an issue with one who is a morning utility clerk in our store who wants to quit but can't since he is on some kind of program. My job description does not include babysitter!!!

I would agree with you, but if it wasn't for Kroger and Walmart having the special needs programs those people would have to live on SSI and have an advocate taking care of their money. We have one that can be very annoying and rude. Although he can't really control his behavior there should still be something that can be done.
Hiring a person with special needs is a very honorable thing to do, but the problem is not ALL people with special needs are able to be hired. Job descriptions are established for all positions, having a "special need" is not a automatic "the job description does not apply". In reality a lot of people with special needs are able to accomplish a lot, its just they need to find the right position and have someone give them guidance as time goes on.
Retailers hiring S.N.s gives them a number of benefits: they get govt subsidized, tax reliefs, they get to look sweet to the community, they can keep the workers at minimum wage and claim they're filling in schedule gaps, so there's certinly no need to hire....it's a win-win squared for the business.
