Starting pay - pharmacy tech
Permalink

Hi, I am asking about the starting pay for pharmacy techs. I was told, I believe by the pharmacy manager, that starting pay would be $10. But my personal profile says $9.75. Is this correct?

I transferred to pharmacy by moving from a different department in the store; does this make a difference? After I go to my first two days of training, will it go up to $10? I haven't started yet. I got unexpectedly out a whole week of work because so-and-so was in meetings all week, and I couldn't work where I was because my transfer had already been put through.

Well, I was hired at $8.10, but it was 5 years ago. My pay would go up FIVE cents every 1044 worked hours. Last year union contract changed and pharmacy techs get 0.70 cents more than store clerks, certified ones get $1.00 more. So now I'm at $9.85, after 5 years of work.

You need to check your union contract if your store is union, it will tell you exactly at what rate you should be hired. My old contract stated pharmacy techs get paid same as store clerks, plus $0.70 addition.

hmm, well it is a $0.85 raise from what my pay was. and my former pay increase was in march. the ESS website says my next one will be in august

i dont suppose it's an error, but i was told one thing according to my memory and now its something different. the pharmacy ive been told is not unionized. will i be eligible for their health insurance after i start, or will i have to wait until next year. i turned down the insurance in my old department. i did not have to quit and re-apply like they used to make you do, it was just a transfer. my training is supposed to be wednesday, at least thats what a store manager told me she is 'shooting for'

so thats a small check after a whole week without a check. it took me $105 and gas money to get this tech license, gonna be a while to make up for that and lost time

if i dont get a lot of hours like i want i may have to look to work in another pharmacy.

Not sure about insurance, but from what I know there's an enrollment period that starts in October and ends mid December, and you can only enroll during that open enrollment period.

My pharmacists are non union, but we techs are union.

Yes, pharmacy techs get paid minimum wage at my store, unless you have a previous work experience.

Forgot to add that non certified techs get extra $0.70 per hour and certified get $1.00 extra above minimum wage.

I think it depends on your state/diviiion because I'm pretty sure in Ohio, techs start at higher than min wage. Now with our new contract especially.

A lot of it depends on whether your pharmacy is union or not. We're not, and our techs start at minimum wage. No perks for being certified at all. We do qualify for health insurance, but you have to average a number of hours per measuring period and it's different than the union employees. The insurance plans you get to pick from are different from the union employees as well.

Stay on your pharmacist or lead tech, if you have one, about raises; and i highly suggest following up with your HR Co

I started in the pharmacy at $9.50 with no prior pharmacy experience. I took the beginners test while working in the pharmacy and got a $0.25 raise. It was the same when I passed then advanced test while still training in the pharmacy. Then I received a $1.00 raise after passing my certification and then another 3.9% of my annual salary for my first-year raise. I am heading into my second-year review in a few weeks. After a year of working at least 32 hours a week, you are eligible for benefits and an employer contribution to your 401k. You are also eligible for five paid vacation days and three paid personal days after one year of 32 hours a week.

WE ARE NOT UNION.
