Do any of you guys work in a store where the department head gets along with their backup so poorly?
It's like that in my store with a certain department head and her backup. And i'm always caught in the middle of it. They both criticize each other every chance they get, and the way i hear it from one, the other doesn't do anything right. I finally said something to a co-manager tonight because i'm like, i can't make either of them stop so what do i do?
I usually just ignore it. You can't make people like each other, and management probably doesn't want to take action until the department starts to suffer because of it.
When they talk to you though, make sure you sound like you're apathetic and uninterested, like you're just listening to be nice. Respond to everything by shrugging and saying "I don't know, it is what it is".

Do what our Food Safety Manager does, just ignore it and keep saying "Yeah". There are going to be those who don't get a long. It's just jealousy and lack of confidence amongst themselves and each other. Don't take either of thems advice or complaints with each other seriously. Make your opinion.
All i know is that i need to focus on my own department, i know deli and bakery is a team but i need to focus on the bakery side, let them fight it out on their end!

They are really immature if they cannot get along in front of other employees and customers. DH/backups are immediate supervisors for clerks in their departments and they should set the example by being nice to each other on the surface. Although I still banter about my DH to other clerks, I never say anything harsh or have arguments across the sales floor. Everyone in a department has to have each other's backs is how I see it.
Some of our ACSMs do not get along and bitch about each other.
Just depends on the person. My previous Unit Manager got along with no one, even the freaking ASM's. Of course he's been demoted and still doesn't get along with other ASM's... let along more lower employees. My DH and myself (backup) get along really well at my store. Produce bicker about everyone, especially the head and DH. Drug/GM generally get along, same with everyone else. But produce, man do they complain about one another all the time. Even the department head complains about all of the employees when they aren't there, but sucks up to them when they are!
Funny thing about my DH is he's a Kroger lifer so he'll just outright tell you if he dislikes you or thinks you're not working hard enough. Even got corporate called on him once cause he hurt some guy's feelings and he filed a complaint. Said he wasn't "sensitive enough" to "other people's feelings"
