What do you do on Late Night U-Scan?

For the moment I just do third shift U-Scan on weekends (so you know Saturday night is lovely every stoner and drunk comes for miles to get their pizza rolls and ice cream) and try to do anything I can to make time fly by and move quickly as possible when customers aren't around.

When my journey started it was replenishing lane candy, replenishing tobacco, and cleaning lanes trying to make it so they are just ready to go for whoever uses them.  However, I hate doing all of these things so luckily night crew management one night requested that I help front the section closest to U-scan.  I enjoyed that cause it killed a bit a time.  I did that for a month before I started conditioning things in the two aisles closest to U-scan cause that killed more time.  That warped into me doing grocery for those aisles on Sunday, which hey I would much rather do than clean and it kills a lot of time.

Problem is this is a balancing act, but I'm not actually suppose to do it.  Technically I'm not allowed to leave the front end at all, but whateva.  There are certain members of management that know I do these things and fully expect me to continue with it while if the other members of management found out I'd be in legit trouble so I have to make sure I'm back at U-scan at a certain point.

The true reason I do these things tho is cause a cashier I don't like who has no right to lecture me or tell me how to do my job went off on me saying the reason we get paid so little is cause of people like me allowing theft to happen by not paying attention. >.> if a theft were to occur and I were to witness it I wouldn't be allowed to do a thing about it soooo?  The tobacco products are at risk, they could be locked up, but all the locks on the sliding glass display case are broken and have been broken ever since I started working there.  If the store doesn't care about protecting them why should I?  So I continue with my antics to show that cashier I do what I want.

I know I'm probably being reckless, but in a way aren't I my own front end supervisor when I left all alone for eight and a half hours?

Your story sprung enough leaks to drown your argument when you went on about how you do whatever you want and that you're your own supervisor.

My u-scanners never stay up at the front.
One sits his happy ass down around a corner and plays on his phone with his head down for hours, whispers into the mic for the closing warnings. Customers come up to me and ask for assistance and I show them where to find him. I always hunt for customers post-closing if hes there. I tell management and they still bring him back in. Annoying as ****.
One goes to the bathroom about 5 times a night, runs some trash, shops on the clock, and may do some reshop.
One girl ALWAYS shops on the clock, hunts me down to talk about how hard she works while Im busting my ass on truck, does a little reshop sometimes, runs trash sometimes. Other than that, she pulls a chair up and crosses her legs and sits there.

At least youre working and staying by the uscans and doing what your night lead asks of you, I guess. Watch yourself, though. If theyre saying that to you, Im concerned theyre waiting for a slip up.

What?  People are finding chairs!?!?!?! Obviously by the way you are talking I can see your store isn't open 24 / 7 like mine is and even though literally nothing is going on 3 am - 5 for me I couldn't do that.  Not when everyone else working at the same time is expected to be on their feet for a whole shift.

Tho of course I feel like the more I do the more I leave myself to being taken advantage of.

I'm not really asking whether I'm in the right or not I guess, because if I do get fired or written up for doing extra work that'd be kind of amusing.  Just wondering what others are doing and if they've found themselves in that kind of situation.

Do you guys get your breaks and lunches?? We only have one person in the whole store on nights that even knows how to run a register or uscan, so we dont get them. Yes management knows and doesnt do a thing about it.
