Kroger Edge?

Has anyone heard if this program is moving beyond the Cincinnati division?  I've heard rumors off and on about it coming to the Louisville division for a couple years now but nothing substantial.  As a scanning coordinator I was curious as to how it would affect that position, undoubtedly fewer hours though I didn't know if the position was being eliminated entirely.

I think you mean they are not "supposed' to be on the floor during daytime hours with lots of customers around, right???  obviously, if a power jack was NEVER permitted on the store floor at all, any time of day or night, that would be one of the stupidest, dumbest, idiotic, pointless, and problem-causing rules ever!!!  Pallets have to be pushed onto the floor at night, and the physical work involved is MUCH harder if you have to fall back entirely on using only a regular (unpowered) pallet jack.

The rule at my store is no power jacks on the floor at all, not even after the store closes.  This means every pallet gets moved with a hand jack, and is exhausting for the one who has to stage this stuff by the aisles so the pallets can be worked off of directly.

We've received a notice from our Division that if anyone is caught using a powered jack on the sales floor at any time, it's an automatic termination regardless of who you are (including management). So I'll use the powered jack to the very limit of the allowed area, and from there take manual jacks off to the aisles. Reason why they made the policy is some stores had damages to meat bunkers, shelves, etc. Kroger should really rethink that policy, but it's probably going to take someone getting hurt manually pulling a heavy ass pallet and suing for a bunch of money to make them do that. Just like how we're supposed to pick up pallets in teams, well when you only have two f'ing people on your entire shift at night including you, it's kinda hard to do that, even better when you're the only person there from 10pm to 4am because there's only enough hours for a part timer to come in and then he decides to not show up. Fun for everyone.

This is insane. At our store, huge heavy pallets loaded down with produce, meat, and stuff for bakery/deli HAVE to be steered across the sales floor (they are located toward the back area of the store, but still part OF our sales floor) in order to get to those areas..........they can't be drug down the "back hallway" as it is too narrow for pallets to negotiate most of the time, because of stored product and misc equipment with no other place to go.  Using ONLY a hand jack (and never a power jack) would make the job EXTREMELY difficult and time-consuming.  You all need to get SERIOUSLY VOCAL about this........can't the union do something?

Yeah, it's always been the rule here too, absolutely no power jacks on the sales floor at any time. I figured that was the case everywhere.

I'm surprised someone higher up hasn't complained about the hallway because I doubt using that much of it for storage is following 5S standards.  Also, not every store is unionized and not all Divisions have strong unions.

And when all the Kroger employees start getting old and everyone has bad backs due to their job duties at Kroger, it'll be MUCH MORE FUN! Wait and see, my friends!doh

They may not like it, but everyone is going to get old one day and all the strain we all put on our bodies when we were younger is gonna catch up to us REAL FAST! Imagine the medical costs!

Oh, and I have a friend who had to quit working for a different grocery competitor down South due to him having to unload a full 28-pallet truck with nothing but a broken-down old manual jack...At the time, he had to unload it in the mornings and they didn't have anyone else at his store to do it that early...Let's just say that after a couple of years of this, his health problems started to increase. He was an older gentleman, but it put a lot of wear and tear on his body...He eventually had to stop working due to the health issues...

Let's ALSO not forget those who already have bad backs and this makes it worse!

And you wonder why there's such an opioid crisis out there!no

Of course, on the other hand, I can see why power jacks on the floor during the day could be an issue, but for the older guys who work at night, it's another story...Fortunately, there have never been any issues with our night crew using them...Believe me...Without them, I guarantee there would be many more injuries and muscle strains and there are enough of those as there is...Why do you think chiropractors are everywhere nowadays???

Think about the pricing channels on the shelves, how think about a 4 inch screen the whole length of the shelves on every shelf in the aisles. Normally this screen will show prices, but it can show an advertisement or maybe your using the Kroger app and trying to find an item. In theory maybe the displays will pulse or direct you to the item in the aisles, just think about the advertisements on TV/Internet and think of in the aisle.
