Dude just gets angry at me for helping him at Uscan

He says he's never used Uscan before. So I say okay, let's get started. I start scanning the first item for him. He has a couple produce items, I look them up in the catalog, going as slow as possible so he can see which buttons I'm pressing. Customer besides me has a help screen. I clear it quickly. He starts getting upset, "Hey man, are you gonna help me or what?" Not sure what he's on about, as I'm still standing right next to him. And I continue scanning the rest of his stuff for him. But for some reason he keeps getting angrier. Maybe it was the way I pressing buttons. "Are you helping me or what?" Now I'm really confused. And an ID check just came up for another customer on the Uscan a few feet away. I tell the guy, let me clear this customer and I'll be right back for you. So I go, to clear it. And when I come back (it was only 6 seconds) he walked away and abandoned his order and left the groceries on the Uscan.

So this guy was angry at me for nothing, and I scanned his stuff for him for nothing. Even the customer who was at the Uscan next to me commented to me that was very rude.

If he walked up to the SCO and asked for help getting started....ok Remember, telling people the plan obvious thing is still allowed. I'm sorry Sir, I'm helping you and also needing to help the other customers too. Unfortunately, Self Checkout requires me to verify IDs...etc I'm more then happy to help you at the Self Checkout, but I also need to help the other customers also. If you like I can help walk your items over to a manned checkout...... Always phrase it as you "helping"....doing your best. I'm doing my best to assist all the customer at the same time.

Guy was a moron. And a dick. You're gonna have that sometimes, no need to question yourself or analyze them.

lol....who can't figure out a U-Scan? It practically does the work for you, complete with voice guidance biggrin

I just want to ask people sometimes why they come to SELF check out when they refuse to do it themselves. When there is 7 registers open and half of them are empty. BITCH THEN GO OVER THERE!!
One old lady made me do everything for them but I didn't say anything to her. nothing cause i was stressed other people needed help. Apparently that was rude so she told her daughter in the car and the daughter came up yelling at me. I just went "ok" and walked away.

SELF

CHECK OUT

People who are ass holes at uscan I just clear it on the hand held.  I remind them there's human cashiers if they're going to be rude to us.  It pisses them off even more but some times you have to state the obvious if they're so stuck up there's nothing they can do about it.  I have several people who insist on using uscan and cuss up a storm when they're there because they do not follow nor listen to half the instructions and make it hell for them selves.  I can't believe my last store stole the hand held from us.  Company policy states we're suppose to have it.  If people go crazy on you over nothing I say nothing because it gives them even less to mouth off on.

I get the customers on U-scan that just expect me to ring their orders like a regular register. I've had a couple of customers that just walk up to me and shove their groceries into my arms, sometimes with their plus card and money. I've had customers call me over to "Help" them, and as I'm showing and explaining what I am doing tell me "Just do it". I explain politely that this is SELF-Scan. I am happy to teach them and am there to help, but it is again SELF-scan. I had one regular customer that always chooses my register when I am on a regular register, ask me if I could do his order for him, when I was running U-scan. I looked and there were 2 regular registers open, with absolutely no lines, and the cashiers just standing there talking (no problem there, just pointing out he could see they weren't busy). I explained that it is "Self-Scan" but I could SHOW him how to use it. He said "Well I just figured that since you aren't busy, you could just do it". Well I had 2 customers there already. They might need help any second, and others may come up that need help. So we don't know that I am not going to be busy as I'm helping six registers, rather than the one they could go to who only serve one customer at a time. I am happy to help and teach. I even have had several times with older customers that didn't realize we closed the regular registers early before we close and aren't comfortable doing U-scan that I will do it for them, and they are understanding if I need to help others, but I can't stand the lazy people who don't want to do it themselves, but want to use the "do it yourself" system with someone else doing it for them.
