any pharmacy techs on here? i like it, but i dont like the long hours, and since we're not part of the union we either don't get breaks or we only get one break. i've been told by several coworkers that we don't get breaks, but my supervisor-like person says i can take a 15 instead of a lunch. all lunches should be taken before 4pm, so if you come in at 2 that's essentially no break. it's awkward trying to make a break for yourself because no one else does it, so if i work longer than 6 hours i'll take a 30 minute lunch. i would not take a lunch because it cuts my hours but i need to sit down if i am working that long. other than that, it's okay
Just take a break. Stop thinking about what others will think. You are entitled to a break weather or not you are apart of the union or not. We need to stop giving in to the made up rules such as your no breaks after 4 pm. We are humans and some where in the millions of laws it states employers have to give its employees breaks. So please take your and encourage everyone else to also. Thats something no one she skip on just to make the company happy or keep up with department demands. Sorry if I came in strong mom. Or trying to be mean or rude.
If your allowed to take a break, take one, others can do the same if they need one. If you do take a break, just ask others if they want one before you go, then its on them, not you. If its busy, try to skip one or just take 5-10 mins....but you need to do whats best for you.
I'm a tech. If I work 4-5 hours shift, I only need one 15 mins break to eat a small snack and I'm good. If I work 6-8 hour shift I want a 30 mins break to eat a proper meal, never heard a "no" when I asked for a break, we're encouraged to take one. It's just a matter of choosing right time to go on a break, if there's just a pharmacist, one tech and me I always wait for a next person that overlaps with me then take a break.
That rule about breaks needed to be taken by 4pm, I think it should only be for techs scheduled 8-5.
I've been a Kroger Pharmacy Tech for two years. I get a break two hours after my shift starts, then a 30 min lunch two hours after that and then another 15 min break two hours after that. Work the breaks out with the team that is there that day and it will work better for everyone.
wow, this was only 12 days ago? feels longer than that. well, i think another new hire is more assertive about taking her breaks so maybe i will follow her. i'm fine with one break in a 6-hour shift, but none at all is excessive. yes, if i didnt say it i'll say i was told to take break/lunch before 4. if they would just let me do product then i could sit down some
Before 4 is ridiculous, especially if you're a closer. Our rule of thumb is that the last lunch needs to be taken before our 5:30/6:00p person leaves. And same with the breaks. Be assertive about the time you need, otherwise you'll never get it. I'm not sure if the break/lunch policy is the same across the board, but if you work 4hrs you get a paid 15, 6 hours you get an unpaid 30, and if you work over 8 you get another 15 according to our employee handbook. I've been with the crew now for 5 years and we've never had an issue with breaks and lunches.
