A book keeper at my store does not like me and extra audits my work.  She finds the tiniest mistake and over questions me of it. The computer is the fail safe and she even audits my price overrides and asks why.  When the computer literally makes us select a 1-4 option.  That should be all the information she needs but she takes it a step further and questions me.  Now she wants me to print an extra receipt and write why on it.  She wants us to take the receipt the customer is turning in for a return and if they want it back make a copy of it.  If the customer does not have a receipt she gives me a lecture about why did I accept a return without a receipt.  At this point she's making up rules.  Other stores I've worked at do not pull this b.s.  No where in company policy does it state I have to do this.  Each time she finds an error in my work she makes me sign a sheet.  Enough signature and you're suspended.  I've signed this sheet more times than anyone else.  There are other names on this sheet of paper but I'm the only one highlighted.  Why?  No other names are highlighted.  Just mine.  Other cashiers do the same policies I do but I'm the one being extra audited against.  Why?  I honestly do not understand the why.  My disability does not allow me to understand that much.  She'll say the sepal and try to explain it to me and I still don't understand it.  She just extra audits my work and I think she's doing it because I retaliated against her for telling me what to do and treating me like a new hire. 

 

Apparently she treats me like a new hirer and not an individual with much experience (8+ years).  I transferred to a new store for let's say safety and health reasons.  Within the first week she gives me b.s. over little things and treats me like I'm a new hire with little to no experience.  She's constantly belittling me and telling me how I'm doing things wrong and it needs to be done this way not that way and thinking I know nothing.  I accidentally nipped at her one day in retaliation and I'm now finding she's extra audit my cashiering skills.  She's finding every little possible detail she can to get me written up for it.  But not teaching me how to stay off this paper.  Is this discrimination?  I want this to end.

First of all you never sign anything unless it's a Kroger policy like alcohol policy or something like that. You are not obligated to sign write ups or papers like you described. So my advice is to stop signing and talk to your store manager. Also it's not discrimination.

Discrimination woud imply you're being profiled based on gender, race or officially approved disability. Based on your statement, you are not. 

However, it looks very much like you're being harrassed, which is a federally sanctioned work place violation, and that is a HUGE no-no.

I would definitely kick this up the ladder as high as you need to go. You don't deserve to be bullied.

So it's not discrimination but harassment.  She's given me crap since day one.  Other cashiers do the same exact stuff I do but for some reason she's giving me crap.  I left my old store due to a customer placing me in a hostile harassment environment.  I basically traded one bully for another.

You are not obligated to sign anything. I will say though, if you just recently transferred from one store to another are. You're new to that store, are new. Not every store runs the same or has the same equipment. You need to be trained for that store. We have transfers at our store. Because we carry things the other store didn't carry and because our store has contracts with certain providers, that the other store didn't have, we have different rules. This transfer wants us to carry what the other store carried and now the providers (we have contracts with) are complaining. You need to be retrained for the store you are working for now. You are NEW!

There is more than one basis for discrimination; it doesn't have to be race-based, for example.  Singling out one associate and holding her to a stricter "standard" than others is a form of discrimination.

A bookkeeper isn't management, right, so, why are you cooperating with her terrorizing you? 

Document and report.  If asking the offender to cease and desist doesn't work, write a statement, on paper, and present directly to store management, and/or District Human Resources, and/or EthicsPoint.com.

Bullies are loathsome.  Resist them.

Great point.  Thank you great enlightenment.  After I accidentally nipped at her I've been giving her praise and respect to loving thy neighbour.  She is making it really difficult to love thy neighbor as she is stuck up and thinks of her self higher.  I almost nipped at her again when she started treating and coaching me as if I knew nothing and had no experience.  If someone literally didn't speak to me in a kind manner "That is not a quality welcome in my father's kingdom." I would have verbally harassed her and been no better than her.  Interesting part about that is it was just me and her in the store at the early morning hours.  So I bit my tong and treated her nicely.  She still "coaches me" like I don't know what I'm doing.  Even know she knows i have 8+ years on the job.  She treats me like a kindergartner.  I feel dirty around her because she disrespects me.  I am going to start a bully log.  I recall handwriting is preferred as type can be changed.  Eventually she'll slip up and I can file a claim against this company for large $$.

Ok, lets get this out of the way! I know different affiliates have different job titles/duties, if your having issues with the "bookkeeper" isn't there the CSM or FE Manager that is over yourself and her? If shes "discriminating" against you for everything, what are you doing differently from others in the store? If they do everything different in the neighboring stores and your doing it that way, maybe its best for you to get to ones of those stores. I always hatted when someone from another store always said "At my old store", something to learn with your development, always be open to learning a new way to do something and try to enlighten others with your knowledge. Always remember others might have not experienced your learning and process, be an effective spokesperson and sell your method.

OP, I would ask your direct supervisor, if there is anything you need to improve on. If she/he asks you why, tell them, that the bookkeeper is constantly telling you what you did wrong.

If you indeed doing those things wrong, because they are not up to your new store's standards, ask your direct supervisor to tell you how to do your job better. If you indeed are doing everything correctly, then ask them to stop the bookkeeper from harassing you.

Bookkeeper is NOT your supervisor. If she/he has any issues, they should communicate them to you through your front end manager/direct supervisor.
