One thing about retail workers everywhere, no matter which company, what time of day, who they are or what their gender, age, or race-----long-term retail workers all have that look on their faces. As a customer you've seen it, as a L.T. retail worker you've worn it. It's a mix of despair, bitter anger, pre suicidal depression and, basically, just utter damnation.
Well it wouldn't have to be that way if everyone were just more uplifting like the company wants!
"Hear ye, hear ye, all puny pages, serfs and toilers: the flogging will continue until morale improves. Additionally, if you stand we will flog you. If you sit down, we will flog you. If you stay, if you run away; if you work, if you shirk, we will flog you"

I could almost sorta agree with this, but on second thought, if you really think about it, I see the SAME tired, angry, irritated, sad, pained, despondent, and/or bored expression on MANY, if not most, of our CUSTOMERS!!!!! Especially alot of them over the age of 40. Ever notice how many of them look like they DO NOT WANT TO BE THERE??!!!! Study the line of customers at the customer service desk (waiting for their cigarettes or needing to buy a money order).
Sometimes I've looked up from my work position, and seen large groups of people slowly making their way down the aisles pushing their shopping carts, and looking a bit like zombies......... ever seen that unsettling scene from Night of the Living Dead (the one from 1968) where hordes of ugly old people (zombies) are slowly moving toward the camera in a menacing way? I know this sounds really awful but sometimes I get a quick "flashback" from that movie when I see all these bored, sad and/or angry shoppers making their way down the shopping aisles.

Haha, I think I'd take the zombie shoppers over the husbands that keep running into the store and don't know how to shop. Like I swear there have been 5 dudes in the last couple of weeks that are like "My wife sent me for X,Y,Z....I don't normally do this...where is everything??!?!?!" Like seriously? How old are you? You've never done ANY shopping before a day in your life? Please go back home and bring the adult with you the next time you come out, sheesh. >_<
