Can they require you to stay over 8 hrs because your (Assistant) Department head waits till 20 minutes before clock out to clean up backstock and trash. I know they can require you to stay over your originally scheduled 4 hrs. Annoying to work 45 mins late because someone won't let us clean up on time

Overtime, no friend of mine, I'd rather start off tomorrow, being way behind.

Depends on your contract and how bad you want the job.

I can make my coworkers stay an hour after their shift if I tell them an hour before the end of their shift.

I always tell them 2 hours mandatory OT if it is a lot of work.  2 hours only if it is an emergency.

I usually ask people to stay over voluntarily.  Most have family stuff to deal with or share cars with spouse.

When I started, I worked all the OT I could get.

He's not asking an hour before the end of my shift. My shift was supposed to end earlier but they asked me to stay 8 hours instead of 4 so that was the plan. He just waited too late to pick up and we were out 45 minutes later. Nearly 9 hrs instead of the 8 I was asked.  I have no problem staying 8 hrs if they give notice, but any later is a no. I'd come in early and work up to 10 hrs if I have the time, but I prefer not later without any notice.

Just leave at your scheduled time. They really cant do anything. If the department didnt have a proper close thats on the ADH.

No OT in cinci district unless you were hired before 1987 hahahha. I was workin 80 almost every week last year so we could scrape by, 90 before the crackdown when holidays were coming up and whats it mean now? Nothing. I worked 2000 case trucks with 2 other guys for a year. I didnt work a single case of backstock for 4 months. Now? Now they expect the same work done in half the hours. They cant get me to stay anymore. Sorry, you took it from me.

What Im saying is, just leave. The **** will get done eventually, which is really all that matters. Call your union rep and find out the rule if you must.

i'm in Cinci division and while OT is harder to get than it used to be, it's still given in my store. The goal for the store is 100 hours of OT a week. Holiday weeks or store walk weeks, i can get away with working 6 days. I'll take all the OT i can get.
