I tried to refuse it over and over again, i told him i wasn't able to accept it... So he insisted so many times, he slipped it in the piece of paper he had asked for to write down what he wanted written on the cake.
I wasn't sure if i should take it or not... i ended up taking it :o
i just don't want to get in trouble for it. the handbook says not to accept tips. Should i just never mention it again?
Yes, the handbook tells you not to accept tips. If you told the customer No, No, No and yet they still did it.....you really don't have any recourse. I always tell associates to always say you can't accept, but take it if the customer is VERY insistent. Depending on the situation, either donate it or keep it. If you feel it might be an issue in the future, just tell Str Mgmt, and they can decide. Most likely they will say, well if the customer demanded you take it...."guess you got a tip". If anything, it just tells you WOWed the customer.
WRONG!! You ARE allowed to accept tips-there is nothing in the employee handbook that says you can not. In fact our store managers encourage it. (You must have come from Publix where they are not allowed to accept tips from customers.)
I have taken tips from "family" multiple times and STILL continue to do so. If I am caught "family" turns to "friend" paying back a loan. My "family" that tops me are of every race, religion, etc. Its hard to keep track sometimes. Lol
Cincy/Dayton it is stated in Associate Handbook, the next think you know ....staff with considered "Restaurant Workers" and paid Restaurant Min. Wage...and allow tips.
Yeah, i checked my handbook because i was worried. and it says you cannot accept them. but doesn't specify what happens if you do. I'm the type that's too honest sometimes, i almost said something to a co-manager but was like, ehh maybe not...
I don't think store management will ever know, i mean i doubt they ever have time to be looking at that stuff on cameras. If they fire me there will only be 3 people left in the bakery, soooo lol
Don't worry about it, worse things have been done. If your worried just tell a Co-Manager, they most likely will be like well you told the person over and over again it not needed/against the rules. Normally when someone wants to tip you, your not going to get out of getting the tip.
whatever you do, DO NOT turn it in to customer service. I always keep tips when given (after saying I'm not supposed to take tips). Some people will donate them, but others will keep them for themselves. Why should some random jackass at customer service keep my tip? I'll keep my tip thank you very much. Don't be a pussy, if anyone ever questions you just say that the customer insisted, who's going to know the difference if they did or didn't?
At my store, we were told that we have to be discreet about it. If a customer tips me at a register, I always put it in the donation container.
Not me. I set it aside, and discreetly grab it when I leave. Or I'll put it discreetly in my box I have for my pens under the register. When I leave, I grab my pen box, tips and all. But I rarely ever work the register now
Every now and then, one of my favorite customers will just casually slip me a $10 or $20 hidden in his hand under the guise of a handshake. He does it so casually, even I think it's just a regular handshake, then when my hand makes contact with his, oh, wait a minute.. money!
I work at Kroger Starbucks and people leave me tips. I am unsure about policy so I just encourage them to leave the money "under the table." No one will talk. Hey, it pays for my energy drinks that I drink before my shifts. I can't have Starbucks, they put chemicals in their products that disagree with my stomach.
Every so often when something like that happens, I politely refuse over and over, until the insist and just push the money on me, then I feel inclined to spread the generosity and go buy drinks for a couple coworkers with me. A few dollars on starbucks or a cold soda really perks people up sometimes. Spread the love!
