There is also mention of "automated warehouses" in the article.

Now if only Kroger invested as much in its associates and in the upkeep of its stores/equipment as it does in technology, conditions in stores might actually be pretty good.

That's the way to feed the human spirit: decrease jobs while profiting more!

While running over people with driverless cars.

Automation is nothing new, has never worked before, and probably won't replace humans in the future. It's too costly. There are too many unpredictable variables, too much hardware/software break down and maintenance, too much inefficiency = reduced profit margin.

Don't count on seeing it soon, if ever.

With all these ideas, companies do not understand they will eventually be taxed or have a HIGH priced license for these vehicles. These vehicles will only add to the bottleneck on local road and cause more wear and tear on streets.

I keep making that point to management.  Cutting hours doesn't feed human spirit.  We're getting new "stocking carts" but not hours.  We get new surveillance cameras and alarm systems but not hours.  We've got locking carts but not hours.  We've closed the training centers but not been given hours for someone to do the training. No one knows anything about what's going on with the "Our Promise, Our Purpose" yet these are weekly meetings headed by the store manager supposedly to ensure cultural changes in the store. NOT WORKING when you have a sociopath at the top rather than someone who wants to engage associates.

The equipment in the stores is unreliable because it's refurbished junk and replaced with more refurbished junk when it breaks.  It gets to the point where you need to swap out three or four times to get "reliable" for a month, maybe two. disbelief

You're preaching my sermon, dawg.

Are you all having trouble with carts with wheels that grind even though they're not locked up?

YESSSSS!!!!!  A number of our bascarts (not sure how many, perhaps half a dozen, maybe more) now make sporadic loud "grinding noises" that remind me of the sound that some old-fashioned metal toys (little trains or cars with some kind of gears?) used to make when a kid pushed them around on the floor.  (Does anyone know what I mean?)  Sort of a 'CCCCSCSCSCSCHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH" noise that can be heard quite a distance across the store.
