Is there anything more annoying than regular clerks who "used" to be department heads and therefore think they know more than you, the actual department head? Bonus points if they haven't even been a department head in the past 5 years. Those people piss me off so much. If you are so damn capable, PUT IN FOR A POSITION YOURSELF AND QUIT BEING A P*SSY.

So are you saying you are currently a DH and therefor better then them? Because honestly I get the feeling only dip****s get promoted in this company. People get promoted for kissing ass, literally sucking dick, and knowing the right union guys over the actually deserving ones. Hell even for simply saying yes to it, people get the job because there's such a lack of options in some cases. Are you saying you're different and actually deserving of the position from hard work and being knowledgeable? Should we take your word for it that you are...
Yeah backseat drivers suck, buy why should anyone take your side when we have no idea if you're deserving of the position yourself. Get the fukk off your high horse thinking people should automatically sympathize with you when for all we know you could be a complete idiot doing everything ass backwards.
Anyone can be a DH these days but no one wants to because the current and past ones are such pathetic cucks that let management and coordinators walk all over them and don't have the balls to speak up so it's made the position undesirable.
"You put the add items on the endcap in the wrong order, no no no redo it now. Uhh uh yes sir. What's this a box of kitty litter is hanging over the edge, no no it's backstock. Okay I'll let them know." - Convo between manager and DH.
Next day I was on the isle and manager spotted same box hanging over the edge and asked me if DH told me not to do that. I said it was a top seller and asked are you telling me to potentially lose the store money. He said..Hmmm..and walked away.
Yeah not all things are that simple but show some sort of backbone and reasoning and management will realize you wont fold to their every crying whim and not be up your ass when you cut corners. If you're not shyt at your job there not gonna demote you for speaking up. Maybe like I don't know, tell your backseat DH to tell you the better way of doing something or simply shut the hell up. Maybe they stepped down/got demoted because they couldn't handle it and are a pussy, but you also sound like a pussy yourself. Maybe try breaking the cycle.
Cliffs : Maybe people don't want the job or have stepped down after realizing what a whipping boy position it has become from management walking all over them because crybabies like the OP can't even confront the simplest problems.

I will agree with you on most of what you said, but sometimes it's best just to keep your mouth shut! If it's a problem that can't be controlled you're just wasting your breath. Trust me I know through experience. I don't even have to say anything and get accused of running my mouth all the time. I literally talk to no one. They talk to me. Yet they always seem to say 'I said'.

yep, I see a lot of this too in my area, all the dip****s are being promoted and the people who actually would make good DH's are pushed aside. The other person who was working in my dept bitched because when my DH went on vacation, they put me in charge while she was gone even though the other person has more senority within the store than I do (not with my dept though) and he blamed me for a while even though it was not my choice, but I do have to do what they tell me to and it was more money for that week so eh, why not.
Oh and might I add that this person is a former DH, who stepped down because they "couldnt handle the stress".
That being said, I have issues with taking orders from DH's who are idiots.
Theres nothing wrong with a dept head stepping down from stress. If you havent been a dept head then you dont know how it is. I work hard to make it look easy for my dept but its NOT, not even close. Bizarre and incompetant management doesnt help.
Its always nice to get a different viewpoint from others. Being able to know your options for when unexpected issues arise can and will always be a great deal of help. I understand that if what they're trying to tell you doesn't have any benefit at all to the task that needs to be done it could be slightly irritating. But in the end they're just trying to help out and do what can to contribute to the team. Depending on the management and how the store is ran can really determine the degree of stress a DH has to go through which also differs from person to person. So I'd say take the advice or leave it and pay it no mind.
