Relief pay

I've seen a couple of posts here about relief pay.  Back in June some time I worked in our dairy department (which isn't my department).  Relief pay isn't on my paystub for that week, so I'm wondering if I can still file for it.  I had no clue about the pay until I looked at this forum board.

Never mind.  Just found out that I don't get it since I wasnt actually covering the Lead position.  I was there to cover for him since he went on vacay, but the person that has more experience than I do in this department was in charge.  I now know that you actually have to do the job of a lead or anyone higher than you in order to get this pay which I didn't.

OP here.  Just got off of work not too long ago and my night consisted of training a new hire while my lead was there...but not training the new hiree.  Can I get relief pay?  My thing is this, I've always told myself how I wouldn't EVER train somebody without getting compensated for it, and then BAM!  It all happened so fast that I didn't realize at that moment how I was in a position that wasn't even mine to deal with anyway.

At my store, you can only get relief pay if you cover a lead position for a week or so

I was getting relief pay for nearly a year while subbing in for bakery managers and "proving" I was up to snuff to be a dept. head....
Other than that, I would get it regularly when I took care of the dept while the dept. head was on vacation.  You have to take over all the tedious work- scheduling, emails, conference calls/communications, ordering, boh reviews, and really have a plan every day to set the dept. up for success, if you can take care of a few of those tasks for your current dept head you should inquire about being promoted to "ADH" status- or Assistant Dept. Head-  it comes with a small raise, but its really the fast track to promoting people into dept. heads because they call on ADH's to go fill in for a manager who is away and see how they do leading a dept.  When they think you're ready they keep you in mind to promote you to lead your own dept in another store.
