New to insurance
Permalink

Hi all

I already searched the other insurance threads but either the answers were very old or they didn't answer what I needed.

I work for Fred Meyer/Kroger in the Pacific Northwest. In the region that I work for, the insurance is Anthem.

Can anyone please help me answer the following questions -

How many average hours do I need to work to receive insurance? I believe it's 25 but not sure.

How long do I have to work those average hours before I receive paperwork to sign up for insurance?

How do I receive the paperwork? (is it mailed home or through HR)

Do I have to enroll during the open enrollment period?

Do I sign up online or does it have to be a sit down meeting with HR?

Can dependents be covered? Or is that only for full-timers?

Can anyone give me a very general ballpark figure as to what I would be paying for insurance? I understand every person/need is much different but I have no idea if it is free or $100/check (for example)

Is there a link to any other information about insurance?   I have looked up mylifeatkroger but since I do not currently have insurance, it doesn't give me much info.

I just want to make sure that I have all the needed info before I sign up (or not).

Thank you

Ask your store union steward for your union contract book as it depends on your specific union contract, all info should be in there. Also, you can call your union rep. A comanager should have a business card or something.

Your insurance is likely done yearly, around christmas time at the turn of the year, with your union rep. You can ask them any questions.

Mine is just me, no dependants, and I pay like 11 dollars a paycheck, though. At old companies Ive paid 7 and 18. Just depends.
