I work at a store in the Cincinnati/Dayton division and am part of UFCW 75. So I requested a Sunday off (which I never do) and it was approved, but it seems I am getting "punished" by getting it off. That week I have a total of 8 hrs while someone with less seniority than me has 32 hrs for the same week. My availability is open, so there's no real reason for this. Should I file a grievance or claim hours? Or both?

Actually there is a reason for it. The other person is putting in work and youre not. Stop using church as a excuse to have Sunday off. Grievance wont help or change things for your entitlement

You should claim hours. and Bring it to managements attention then if that does noting then you need file a grevience.

I work my ass off, I'm one of the hardest workers there. Mind you I hardly ever request Sunday's off. This is the 2nd time this year I have requested one off. I work every Sunday. Hence why I said there's no real reason for this.

Im in the same Dayton/Cincinnati division. Can you answer a question for me? What exactly does it mean to claim hours, how does it work? For example say someone with higher seniority has 25 hours but wants more, and someone with lower seniority has 18 hours. Can the person with higher seniority claim part of their 18 hours? Or is it only if someone with lower seniority has more hours than you? I am asking because we are having a disagreement in my department about how it works.
You can not claim a part of that person's 18 hours, if you claim hours you have to claim whole 18 hours, that person's whole week. And of course one with less seniority can't claim hours of someone with more seniority.

Its for piece of **** associates like the OP that lets them steal other persons given hours cause they were a entitled selfish dick to work their given schedule.
Probably not helpful because Im in the MI division, but you can only claim somebodys hours here if you have more seniority and the person below you got more hours. You have to have open availability for the shift you are claiming. You also cannot make the other person fall below 12 hours.
To the OP: Always claim shifts before grieving it. Make sure to do it by the deadline or your claim request is null and void.
