Michigan division here. Does anybody know how much power leads and heads have to discipline associates? I know ACSMs can give SIRs, but what about other leads? Can they send people home?

Put it this way: you're like a mall cop. You wear the uniform and have the swagger, but at the beginning, middle AND end of the day, you no where near being the R E A L police biggrin

I doubt ASCMs can give out SIRs unless they are the Manager on Duty.  I would call the union and ask if that is legal.

Basically, A union member can not give another union member a write-up.

When there are no store managers available, the Manager on Duty(sometimes a regular employee) is in charge.  When there isn't a Manager on Duty available, The Night Manager is in charge.

If an employee is drunk, disruptive or insubordinate, the Manager on Duty can send the person home and let the store managers deal with it the next day.

If a person is two hours late, they can be sent home.

Other than that, Department heads and leads are just working stiffs like everyone else trying to make a buck.

At my place, leads and heads can suggest or request a write up from store manager, and only a store manager can write people up.

Here in the columbus division backup and department heads do give out SIR which arent reall write ups. They are the second sept in the  disciplinary process. If the issue keeps occuring then management has to do a CA then progress from their. But SIR is the start a paper trail after coaching verbally.

SIRs' are just warnings. The only ones that can write you up are the managers. Leads/Department heads can suggest a write-up, but can't write you up. They can not send someone home without permission from management. So if your Lead says for you to go home or writes you up, call the Union and talk to management. If you go home they can claim you walked out/quit.

I write my own people up and hold management accountable for making sure they present it. I don't play. I won't be walked over either above or below me. Ain't nobody got time for that for what is expected of us. Truth be told, heads and some leads are in an impossible situation.

As MOD I've sent people home and a couple of my past assistants have sent unproductive people home. no point playing or paying you to do nothing.

You don't write **** up. Youre just another simpleton of kroger. management would slap your ass in the face if you tried mouthing off.

I don't see why anyone would question whether a Lead or Dept Head can issue write-ups? I was a Lead for about a year before I left and absolutely wrote my own people up as well. I handled business the way it needed to be handled and management could either support the decision or deal with the offending individuals themselves. Most of the time, they will choose the former option. Also, I'm not aware of this so-called rule that Union members can't issue write-ups to other members?? In my experience dealing directly with management to issue SIRs to union members, there just has to be an additional member of the Union present to act as a witness to the write-up.

Has anyone else had different experiences with this?
