Not sure if I understand you correctly, but YES there IS a reason to call 3 employees in an effort to get someone in to replace a sick employee for the day.
The chances are better that ONE of them will answer and be willing or able to come in.
hey, It's better to call 3 (and show that you actually made a little effort to get some much-needed help in the store) or (as many leads would do) just shrug nonchalantly and say "tough luck........we'll have to do without, and everybody else will have to pitch in, work harder and cover for the employee who called off."
