right now the rumor at my store is that management mainly our front end manager has been threatening to write people up for not tucking in the shirts. can they do that?
....in a word....yes. In fact, you probably signed something stating that you understood it was part of the dress code when you were hired. Wether or not they would actually do it is a different story. Is it really that big of a deal? Just tuck it in.
1. Department heads can't write up anyone. (I'm one myself) the write up has to come from the store management. So your CSM needs to cool his/her little power trip.
2. Yes they can write you up for failure to follow directions. Management has the right to direct the workforce as they see fit.
3. Check your union contract they have the right to enforce a dress code. Tucking in a shirt could be consided dress code as long as they enforce ALL STORE EMPLOYEES to follow it. If other department employees do not tuck in their shirts and nothing is done about it then they cannot write you up for an "infraction." If they did I would call my local union rep to come sort out the "misunderstanding"
