Working there isn't really that bad. It gives a person time to think and get their lives in check. About the people who make a career out of it, you should be careful. Kroger may be in YOUR future. I can't say that it is a path I would want to take, but I can only imagine that the people who make a career out of it didn't plan on doing so. Some people just didn't feel they could do too much of anything else. Others just allowed time to get away from them. I know you're smacking your lips at the thought of people being so hopeless and pathetic that they choose to work at a third-rate grocery store, rather than stop complaining and do something with their lives like we're expected to do, but if you consider the fact that the world is a scary place, and a lot of people are not strong enough to endure its hardships then maybe you'll be able to see past your own nose, stop criticizing people about their situations that you know nothing about, and perhaps people won't think of you as such a dick weed. I bet people think you're a jerk huh? Well maybe this is why.
