Iam cashier/selfcheckout attendant. iam an amazing cashier always over 105% and most of the time i am good with customers especially if the day before was really good or i got something to talk about besides the weather and the economy. I engage all my customers while iam on uscan even if all hell is breaking loose. i have 3 very stupid write ups, (customer didnt get one of items,i was the example)(i was very tired and i broke something by sitting on it)(customer claimed i rude to them when i wasnt) i come in early when asked by supervisor, i ask to stay late. The point is i want to be in customer service how can improve myself and what iam doing to get this promotion i want so bad.
I was just thinking of a time when a person I worked with was promoted to Customer Service after refusing to do a chore requsted by a person in charge because she was younger than him!!! She might have been younger, but she had senyoroty over him

Ps i have worked at my kroger for 14 months,
Hope you never sign the write ups. They are not worth the paper they are written on.
Best advice is to leave and get a another career. To get promoted at Kroger here you don't need talent you just need Seniority.
If you have talent its wasted at Kroger sorry to be negative but get out when you can.
Boo hoo youve worked at kroger for 14 months in most jobs it takes forever to earn a promotion years and your crying because its only been 14 months. Give me a break. They only promote the best of the best into customer service i cant say the same for the people they hire into it but look in the mirror are you really that awesome would you pass every mystery shop if evry customer was a mystery shopper.

Bro its you knmow who its your brother stop lying your not that awesome
i do all of the things you said you got written up for. i mean i dont DO those things, but i get in trouble for being rude or whatever, (i usually dont intend to be that way, but i'm tired and i dont like talking when im tired, so i dont say "hi how are you") and i catch hell for being "rude". and i forget items on a regular basis.
anyway, i've never got written up and i do so many things wrong. lol.
my floor supervisors asked me if i wanted to do some floor supervision and, i was like "Heck yeah!!!" i've only beeen working there like, 8 or 9 months too!
it's not about seniority or being an 'awesome' cashier. it's about your availability, your willingness to go above and beyond your job description, your ability to lead others and to provide top rate customer service. it's also about job availability. if the position is filled, then you can't move into it. it's about ambition, motivation, being proactive, efficient and proficient.
have you told your FE Manager you want to cross train in Customer Service? have you asked him/her what you need to do in order to cross over? if you are waiting to be 'noticed' and offered the chance to move to Customer Service, you will be waiting for a very long time. you think the cashiers have it tough? you have no clue what kind of pressure management has on them. they appreciate employees who do their work and do it well, but they are not thinking 'who can i move up?'; they are thinking 'how i can i meet all my goals this week?' you want to be promoted, then speak up and work for it!
i have been with Kroger for 9 months and i have observed my FE Manager and noted everything that she goes through. i have busted my tush to anticipate her needs and make her job easier. i asked to be trained in SCO, accounting, and customer service. i am now a front end supervisor. it's not about seniority...it's about working hard to move ahead.

i like this guy he makes some very good points here im going to talk to my manager about wanting the promotion one of our supervisors is quitting so a postion is opening up any advice on how to approach her about it
just talk to her! tell her you want to move up and ask what you can do to make that happen. and (this is very important!) LISTEN to what she says...even if you don't like it! sometimes we get caught up in proving ourselves or defending ourselves and don't actually listen to what someone is saying.
for example, when i first started, my Kroger was desperate for cashiers and they were willing to take me at whatever hours i could work. a couple of weeks later, they hired two more cashiers and my hours got cut drastically! i was so upset! my manager kept asking me if i could work beyond my current availability and i kept saying no. then it hit me...if i opened up my availability, then they will give me more hours. so i did. i was really mad about it at the time, but now i understand it.
so, if your manager tells you that you need to open up your availability, then really look at it. they are not going to spend the man hours training you for a position if you can't work the hours. don't give up! keep telling your manager you want to cross train, or move up, or learn more. be pro-active. and if you are given the chance, then be darned sure that you thank them and that you do your absolute best! take notes, ask questions, pay attention to those who are currently doing the job well. listen to what is being said around you...not the goofy conversations between your peers, but the supervisors and managers. understand that their jobs are not easy (i know it just looks as if they are walking around telling everyone what to do, but there is so much pressure on them!!). listen to what they are saying and see what you can do to make their jobs easier. don't wait for them to tell you do something. if you see something that needs to be done, then just do it!
seriously. i can't tell you how many times i tell the same courtesy clerks to straighten up the bags and use the BOB stickers...it drives me insane and i will never make any effort to promote those particular clerks. but i have several that take the initiative to do their job and to clear go backs for the cashiers when we are slammed, and to sort go-backs when we are slow...those are the clerks that i will move up, when i can.
sorry to be so long winded...if you have any specific questions, please let me know.
iam slowly getting better with customers while maintaining my score, i actuall set a new personal record of 119.5 and my customer relations is getting better. also as reply to the guy who said its about availabilty that is a lie other wise i would of already been promoted. I have the third highest ever elms score at my store only beaten by two supervisors.
