if kroger is a billion dollar industry.......

Why does the CEO take as much money as he does? Does he realize that if he actually paid his workers more than minimum wage they would be happy and in return without even thinking about it we would be a lot nicer to customers.... we would probably also do a much better job then we have been doing. I am trying to make a living, i have worked for kroger for over a year busting my ass and all i get is $0.05 raises every 6 months. WTF my store makes over $60,000.00 a day and i cant get more than a five cent raise.

anyone know of a way to do something about this? how can we get people to understand that we don't need to make millions of dollars a year just because we own a business that is doing well especially when the people that do all the actual work don't get paid....

If you're not happy with your .05 raises every six months stop venting on a message board and feel free to use the free the classifieds in your local paper or the many internet job search sites to find a job that better suits your standards. That will open up a position for someone who might appreciate the job and give our customers the service they're supposed to receive.
I'm sure you are a college grad with many years of experience under your belt who is just slumming in a Kroger job....just in case you aren't let me educate you about our company president.
He grew up in the grocery business, has a college degree, worked his way up in the Kroger Company. He now oversees almost 2500 stores, over 200,000 employees, a company with billions of dollars in earnings, and millions in profit.
I'm assuming you feel that he should make $10.50 an hour and give the other couple hundred thousand employees huge raises? What planet are you from?
In America, we get paid based on our industry, our education, our experience/skill, and our job duties.
I for one am grateful that I work in a stable, (mostly) well run business that will ride out this down economy. I've turned down higher paying jobs over the last few years. I'm now glad I did. Those companies have had significant layoffs or closed their doors in the last 6 months. I would have traded short-term profit for (possible) long-term unemployment. Something for the whiners to think about.

What are you a F****** retard? Do you know how much it would help our economy/Kroger/the world? No i don't think he should make $10.50 but i think the deli i work at is hard enough to where i at least should. I work my ass off every day for minimum wage, and what world are you from where you think you can just pick up a paper and grab a new job? That takes time and consideration. Am i gonna get the same amount of hours, will the pay actually be any better, will i have any job security? People like you shouldn't be aloud to respond to anything because your goal is just making people feel like they are wrong about everything they do or say. If you don't like what i have to say or if you like Kroger so much why are you even in this forum????

Hey, DeliMan...Maybe you feel like your wrong because you are. Nobody (least of all Kroger) owes you anything...not even a job. You have one, though. If you're any good, you'll work your way up (or out) to a better job with better pay. But don't cry because someone with more experience/education makes more than you...they earned it.
Oh, and here's the purpose of the forum quoted from the opening post:
"The purpose of this forum is for Kroger employees to share and discuss their views on company policies, practices or any pertinent issues.  Non-Kroger topics are also welcome."
I didn't see where it said I had to hate Kroger to post. I just disagreed with you. If that makes me a "F****** retard" in your book....I can live with that.
Best of luck to you.

Deliman, have you tried going to the store manager about your pay raise? if you feel like you deserve more that a $0.05 raise every six months then thats the best thing i can tell you to do.

I agree with FileGuy. Kroger did not come knocking on your door asking you to work for them. If you don't like your job, then move along and let someone else without all the nasty attitude take your place. If you are only making minimum wage, then you would do well to go to a fast food restaurant. I know that Chick-Fil-A pays more than minimum wage to start off with.

I work hard too. 40 hours a week. Plus I'm a mom and a wife, so I have a household to take care, homework to monitor, meals to cook, clothes to wash, etc. Quit your frigging whining and crying over having to work to make money. Welcome to the real world. If you want a raise, then talk to your manager. Oh, and here's a tip: when you are hired on at a company, if you have experience, you will start with a higher wage. So, why don't you take your Kroger experience and apply someplace else.

I don't make much, in fact less than 1/3 what my husband makes and my hours suck. But you know what...my money helps out my family. I pay for our groceries and maintain our cars with my paycheck. Would I rather sit at home and play with kids? You bet! Would I rather work in a 9-5 office job making twice what I am pulling down now with great benefits? Hell yeah! But the fact is, I don't want to put my kid in daycare. So, I work the crappy shifts for the crappy pay and I don't bitch about it, because that's my choice. If you want more out of your job, then do something about it!

you people are all dumb.... do you not see the problems with the economy? Do you not realize how much it would help to have people like the Kroger CEO making millions of dollars a year when he does nothing more than anyone else? I don't expect him to make less than anyone else that works at Kroger. I want people to realize how much the earth could benefit from people not taking millions a year for doing a job that is much easier than any job you or I get to do. and no i don't feel like i am wrong i am saying that you are the kind of person that goes out of their way to make people feel like they are wrong. I KNOW i am right. How would it hurt the economy if the actual workers made more money? Also I work 40 hours a week doing all the worst shifts. I am NOT and never will complain about the shifts i get. Someone has to do them and why not me? I have to take care of my brother because my parents are leaving us for a year and a half to go to Florida. Which means now i have a household to take care, homework to monitor, meals to cook, clothes to wash, etc. OK? so please judge me before you know what you are talking about. Oh and yes i have asked my manager for a raise and they said that the union contract only allows a .05 raise every 6 months. Don't get me started on the union. Every day i have to do bakery jobs that are against my union contract to do which puts me way behind in my actual job but they don't care about that and either does the union.

and this is why i hate forums....no....sigh.

deliman- you sound like a hard working guy who isn't paid what he is worth...which sucks. i'm sorry. i forget sometimes how fortunate i am to live in an area where the economy isn't that bad....i am working because my husband works in the construction industry and his pay has been severely cut. i am lucky, i got my job at the perfect time and we are doing okay. i apologize for making assumptions, but i really did not judge you. good luck! maybe you could transfer out of the deli? not all the jobs at Kroger are so labor intensive...and some pay better than others.

This has been a very interesting thread of posts.
At least 3 different views and all voiced with out (too many) personal attacks or anger.
Sewphisticate is correct, though. Forums can be frustrating for this reason...not everyone agrees.
Still, it's great to see not everyone feels like working at Kroger is all doom and gloom, and that not everyone is drinking the management kool-aid and thinks everything is great when there are significant issues that should be addressed. That's the good thing about forums, seeing the different perspectives and maybe having our eyes opened to different points of view.
My thanks to Sewphisticate and Deliman for a good open discussion and some spirited posts. I enjoy the different perspectives you've brought to the forum and look forward to your future insights.
Best wishes...

I currently work for Kroger in Nashville, TN, in the process of transferring to Houston, TX.

I work the night shift, stocking.

Before I was hired at Kroger in 2005, I had worked for Albertsons and Winn-Dixie in Florida after high school. I was hired for night stocking making $11.55 an hour and a $.50 an hour increase for working nights so I was making $12.05 an hour.

After the raises, I'm making $12.55 an hour. In this economy for the job i'm doing, I would never complain. I look at it this way, It's helping me to get through college.
