Go for the UPS /FedEx.They pay more, they pay health, and they have a future. Doubt what I write? Look up Kroger stock - wonder why it's where it's at? The rank and file have no faith in the "Leadership" nor does Wall Street.
Take the Dairy Manager's job! You will get a pay increase. You will have responsibility. Prove yourself. Look around for you next advancement opportunity.
Only a fool would turn down a promotion. Didn't your parents teach you anything? Well let me - Don't burn your bridges. Who's to say how things will turn out at UPS. Well you can go there and find out (if you get the job).
As a dairy manager you get instant benefits.

To answer your original question, unlike the last two posts, there is a degree of difficulty when it comes to being a dairy manager. I have been a back up for our dairy manager for the past several years. I've ran numerous vacations as well as when the boss was out due to injury. There are a lot of added responsibilities when it comes to running any department. First off, you MUST maintain CAO, create accurate orders, know when orders are being transmitted and how long it takes to create a accurate order, keep back stock levels to a minimum, check orders daily, report mispicks, anticipate sales and customer volume during peak hours/days INCLUDING severe weather circumstances, create team stocking guides which help guide your crew to completing their daily tasks, keep up on markdown percentages, make sure you are completing daily shelf reviews accurately, building displays, ROTATING product and ensuring that the product on the shelf is being properly rotated, help throwing stock, keep up with manager requests, completing P&G tasks DAILY (keeping your department clean and organized), etc.. Proper training is a MUST. You need to completely understand how to use an RF gun and all of its many functions as well as the terminals to check orders, manually receive/create/un-receive orders etc. You must also scan back stock to ensure that your MIN levels, BOH levels and ALO levels are all correct.... Trust me, from experience, it isn't easy, but very manageable if you have the right organizational skills and have the right attitude. Feeling overwhelmed and powerless is all too easy. Have confidence in yourself, the training you received and your management team and other department heads to help guide you in your daily tasks. If you have no experience with CAO, creating orders and/or managing people, then I highly suggest you do not take the promotion. But under the given circumstances, you must have some experience in these areas or the job opportunity would not be there....hopefully. Hope this helps.....
I got suspended 4 days for taking my lunch break in the restroom. I like to eat and sit on the toilet @ the same time! In one hole and out the other in no time! I love to eat beans!
ITS NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAVE OLD CONTRACTERS DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!
This is probably true for all departments. If the department is well staffed with reliable people then it shouldn't be a problem. On the other hand, if they're constantly having to pull people from elsewhere to finish working the trucks and the shelves are always empty then you don't want the job. It would be too much of a hassle. Our dairy department has gone through over a dozen head dairy clerks in the last 4 years. The one we have now has been at it for a while. If you look at the job postings in the breakroom there's always some store that's asking for a dairy coordinator. They go through them that quickly.
Our store has one of the worst dairy departments in town. Out of Stocks and holes everywhere. Dirty and sticky shelves. He is always fighting with the co-manager over his minimums and product going out of date and trashed. When ever management gets on his ass about the condition of his department he bitches and cries that he has no help. And he always plays the Race Card because he is Black. Oh woe as me, I get picked on because I am a proud black man married to a white woman. Just do your damn job , shut your cry baby mouth, and get a life.
