Attendance Policy

Can anyone tell me what the attendance policy is at kroger?  I was scheduled to work 2 days that I requested off due to being out of town.  I was going to call in but was wondering what the policy is on call ins before you get in trouble?

A request is a request.  Go to work.

You need to call in at least an hour before you scheduled time.  Call off 3 times within a certain time period, you get a write-up and 90 days probation.  Call off during probation, you get suspended.  Call off again and you're pretty much gone.  Switch shifts with someone if you can!

Depends on your union contract but most Kroger stores consider calling in on a day you requested off but were scheduled anyway as an automatic probation, or the next progression of steps for attendance violations if you are already on probation, depending on your situation.

You are permitted to request time off! If others with less seniority than you get that day off and you are scheduled, then see the manager first. Unless YOU are essentially the ONLY person who can do a particular task that is reuired that day, someone else can work that day instead of you. If the manager does not correct the scheduling error, file a grievance with your steward immediately.

Article 4   discharge and suspensions
Section 3

With regards to chronic tardiness or absenteeism, the following disciplinary action will be taken:

(a)    First unexcused absence or tardiness - verbal warning
(b)    Second unexcused absence or tardiness - first written warning notice
(c)    Third unexcused absence or tardiness - second written warning notice.
(d)    Fourth unexcused absence or tardiness - one week layoff without pay.
(e)    Fifth unexcused absence or tardiness - Subject to discharge

local 540 Dallas contract.
============================================================
If in your probation period , you have no rights as you can be terminated for any  reason or no reason at all.
Miss 3 scheduled days of work, without a doctors excuse  or a call in, and you have voluntarily terminated yourself. No show or call in on a day you requested off, and you better have a doctors excuse or it covered under the union contract or you have an unexcused absence

I've been at Kroger for 1 year and 2 months. When I first started last year i got a bit of a cold and couldn't come if for 3 of my scheduled days. I called 2 hours ahead of my shift to say I wouldn't be there of course. But when I next came in they said that they were going to extend my starting probation from 60 days to 90 days. I had never been told of this policy before then and I was told that I was allowed 5 unexcused days. But my question now is do these reset at any time? And how often? I don't get sick often, but I can't afford to go to the doctor, so this information is really needed.

I think an unexcused absence for being ill is BS IMO ... I am a pretty tough, healthy person and I dont get sick very often but every fall / winter I do get sick at least once pretty seriously, I have only called in for being ill one other time, and that was almost a year ago, so I am not worried about being terminated. They tell me to go to the doctor, easy for them, but my health insurance hasnt kicked in yet and it would be out of my pocket for something I know how to treat.

Although this post is 7 years old, I thought I would add my 2 cents.

A request is only a request.  Needs of the business come first.

It depends on your contract.

Under my contract, if a person requests a day off, it is denied and they call in anyway, it is automatically a No Call, No Show(even tho they followed the call in procedure).

I have people that call in once every 3-4 weeks without hesitation.  Then, they request days off.  When I write the schedule, I deny all requests.  If I have enough coverage for those days, then I will give them the day off.  Seniority gets the days off first.

I'm not trying to sound like a smartass, but I am guessing you wrote this with your smartphone, and have not learned where the punctuation marks are, such as commas, periods, etc.?   Also, how to make a space so you would have several short paragraphs that are much easier to read. I can just barely understand what you wrote.

Maybe you could try using  a regular computer with a regular keyboard, and write it so we can understand it better????    Thanks~

What department do you work in? You can't just wait until the day of, and call and ask to come in later. That wouldn't fly in most departments. Especially not in a probation period.

Or you can be like me and get fired for texting the store manager I was sick instead of calling the store. He was the opening manager too. Plus, no one answers the store phone at 2 AM when youre scheduled at 6 AM.

Ive also been suspended on my first 2 absences. For a company that allows sick days yall certainly dont follow it.
