Been with Kroger for 20 years and in the SWKMA area of Dallas.Have had 18 store managers, been in 8 stores and about 10 different zone managers or zone changes. Never had many problems with any store manager until we got the latest one at 488 in McKinney. An old Wal-mart manager that has less that 1 1/2 years with Kroger. Trying to implement Wal-mart ideas and side stepping the contracts. Local 1000 has countless grievances filed and I and the market crew are starting to file them on a weekly basis. Any one know how many times a manager has to have grievances filed , meetings with the union and Zone manager and documented problems and violations to HR before the company says enough is enough and moves them or demotes them? Co-Managers are even trying to get him to understand he has to follow a contract. This is Store 488 SWKMA district 7.
Our contract has a provision that prohibits a manager from doing a clerk's job.
So every time we caught our moron of a manager stocking shelves or building grocery displays, we would write up the grievance without the personal information. Then pass out about 50 photocopies to our co-workers with the instructions to "sign your name and send it in, you'll get paid what he worked at overtime."
Watch him take 2 hours to build endcaps, and then watch them pay 100 hours of overtime for it. That trick alone got a manager fired in less than a week.
Our contract in Local 540, meat, contains the same provitions. We have about 12 hours of work that management has done or had others done. We will get the pay. Just got to get him to stop it and the harrasment. It will come in a month when I and two others get to speak our minds. We are on our negotiation team and we are the ones that are to bring out our problems with the contract and other items, standards and policies.
Same manager here has a class 2 grievence, from local 1000 for failure to give breaks and refuse any breaks during prime time selling. 1000 has about 30 people denide breaks and he has refused to do anything about it yet. Got a part timer that worked yesterday from 3 to 9 and was told he can not take a break until after prime time and that is 4 pm until 8 pm for what our manager has set. He wants to bring 18 years of wal-mart to this small kroger store.
He refurs to Wal-mart as a prison. Seems that as long as he gives the district manager the Numbers they want, then he keeps his possition. He has backed off the meat department and has had to dispose of 18 write-ups on me and my crew. In Time, we will break him in right or he will loose the entire store as we have key people that has all put in for transfers or looking for new jobs. have someone from the union in there every few days. To things this district manager likes is Numbers and not having to deal with the union and labor problems. This store has gone thru a differant manager evry other year. Seems it is a place to let new ones get their feet wet and see what they can do. If he wants to run it as a Wal-mart then he better be ready to handle the union almost daily and that will be his down fall or breaking piont.
