Can not say for sure but from what I know, there is the employee orientation and union orientation all together. Then you should be sent to your store and introduced to management and the department head that will be over you. If they are telling you that they would be calling you  on Monday or Tuesday , my best guess is that they do not want to or have the time to start you on a weekend and that they are looking at the schedule and placing you on it first. In our store they want all the schedules done bu noon on Wednesday so they can adjust it by noon on Friday if needed.

Without knowing the area of the country you are in, it would be hard to say because you could be under a differant contract. I would contact your shop steward or union officail and ask them for a copy of the union contract. It would have the pay rates for every department in it along with the schedual for pay raises. Now here is one thing that we do in local 540 and I will guess other locals too. When hires, it depends on your experiance you have. Some times kroger will not give you the proper time or can not verify some employment. You have 30 days to challenge your pay rate as far as the experiance goes. If you can prove it then you go to the next level.
