is this ok?

I have noticed that whenever our store has a party that our store director instructs out customer clerks to go to the back room and go through our damages and use damaged items such as dented cans of soda, busted boxes of juices for our parties. Is this correct procedure? It makes me feel like our store director feels so little of us to give us damaged items to consume. For one I am really not thinking this is very sanitary. It really dissapoints me as an employee.

Could not say one way or the other but have seen store directorsm use reclaim and damaged items ( assuming they are still safe to consume) for a store party. We passed store certification the other day and he had about 8 Pizzas that just passed thier sell buy date and had them cooked up for us all to eat.

That seems pretty awful. If we ever do anything special it's always Kroger brand, but when there is a party at our district office they sky is the limit- but they do drink Kroger water.

I don't know if it varies store-to-store, but at mine, the only thing you're allowed to do with OOD is scan it out, empty it (if it's a liquid), and throw it away.

that is to be the propper thing and policy to do. But in 20 years, 8 differant stores,16 differant store managers and various other changes, I have seen some store managers that will save a few things that are still safe to eat and have them in the break room for employees to eat. Usually Cakes, kroger drinks, pizza and snak items.

Here is what we do in the meat departments in North Texas. If the items are out of date and still looks good( and that is anything from seafood , chicken, pork, beef, lunch meat , frozen or anything else) We scan it out as donations and place it in the frozen food vault in plastic bins. The North Texas food bank then comes by once a week and takes it for meals and whatever else they do with it.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. While we never get drinks, we often get OOD donuts and similar items from the bakery the day of, or the day after, they expire.

they haven't done anything for the store as group in sometime at my store, but every week they have a big lunch for their department head meetings that last from 2 to 3 hours.  they always use fresh items for them.

The same thing happens in my store, when the head managers have meetings they order out food or get fresh food cooked. Yet the rest of the employees are given product that is either expired that day or from the damages in the back room. Also when we have parties for holidays we are told to only spend a specific amount.

Unless if it has a IDT sticker or paid sticker its ok; if i did that or anyone else did we'd get fired. thats grazing. Just ask the manager or store director if its ok before you start. Also if you think theyre stealing call the employee hotline in youre break room.
