Have not figured it out yet but someone is full of **** and just got to figure out who dropped the damn ball.
Here is the problem. We at store 488 in Mckinney texas has had a short staffing problem for years and it is not uncommon in the Dallas area for the Meat departments. back in June we had a lady want to trancfer to the meat department from the fron end. She was there for almost a year and fully qualifier to have all her insurance and medical coverage from local 1000. Now to transfer back there she would almost have to start her time over to re qualify for her insurance since we are on a better and different plan then the front end. I had her union ap and during the contract talks I discussed this with out Union negotiator , and secretary -treasurer Felipe Mendez. I told him I was not going to give it to him or keep her back there if the insurance was going to be a problem. She has prescription med's that casts her about $600 a month without insurance . He and our Business agent Mark Nazagotis had a conversation with Paul Glen and the Hr person about this employee and the problems we had getting anyone to work in the market. Mr Glen and Hr agreed that there would be no delays and they would make sure that She was qualified for the insurance in the next few weeks so that she would not have a health issue with prescription drugs. About a month ago She got a termination notice for insurance from local 1000. Contacting Out local she found out that she was still not covered yet and that her med`s needed filled. She has had to pay for them herself until they get it right and then be re-reimbursed. For the last week she has been out with Bronchitis and pneumonia. Needs to be in the hospital for treatments but they claim she has no insurance and has a $6000 bill to be paid.
I am tierd of the who said they said and sent emails to the International office in Washington to get it fixed. I could care less what one said but when they made assurances that it was taken care of only to find it was dropped or miss handled, then one wants answers.
Just want to know if it was out leadership Pelipe Mendez, Paul Glen from kroger. His HR staff or the funds administration staffing from the South Central Insurance fund. Now two things will happen from this. I will , as a shop steward , start to encourage kroger employee`s NOT TO TRANSFER to the market unless they want skewed over by both the union and the company. Or when we do get back to bargaining with Kroger that I will not let my voice be silenced and will probably get kicked off the committee or refuse to give them a unanimous vote until they fix this one ( employee`s with insurance to be transferred to the market with no laps in cover time) problem for good.
Union leaders are pissed for the emails but as I told them as a shop steward I try to take care of my employee`s first and then look at the whole picture. What good is the union if we ( the active member voices) do not speak up for what we feel is right.
good for you sir! we need more shop stewerts that go to bat for their people. the union is stating to worry me. it seems the have both less strength, and fight in them, as they used too.
