i cannot remember where i saw this, but i know i read somewhere that some stores have greeters. How would a person go about applying for this position? would their pay/benefits be the same as a regular employee (non-bagger) or do the hours come from the front end/baggers?
Now in the SWKMA, Dallas area, there is no position as a greeter but our store manager decided to have one during prime time selling and a little after wards. The reason was that we had two bad inventories and things walking out the doors. He went on his own and just pulled someone from the front end on different days and placed them there. Did it for three months and it made a big difference on the next inventory count and helped reduce shrink thru theft greatly. ELMS has no hours or position for greeters so it kind of was take a few hours from here and there to cover it. But no official position of greeter is in the kroger vocabulary in the Dallas area.
I also think it's about the size of the store and your market. I am in virginia, and our store sometimes doesn't even have someone in each department at all times. The floral lady, ok well she gets paid to sit in the floral department, only works about 25 to 32 hours a week.
Most of the time after 4:30pm, the baggers are responsible for putting out milk. etc.
We do about 60 to 75k a day. So it's not a very slow store *( by this areas standards). But honestly I don't think we will ever see a greeter in this store.
