Bonus Driven

If you are ever at a Quarterly update meeting (at least in my division) you will notice that when they speak about numbers (identical sales, mystery shop scores, customer/associate tracker) that they ALWAYS talk about how it effects THEIR BONUS!

The people at the top are clearly only interested in whether of not they are going to be able to fund their trips to The Carribean. Whether or not the company is succeeding or not is secondary.

So, is it any wonder that the Associate survey only effects 5% of their bonus potential? They already know that the Associate Survey is going to be bad because, quite frankly, the people at the top treat everybody poorly. So, knowing that, they made it so that it only affects a small fraction of their bones potential. That way, they can treat everybody like crap, and still get a favorable bonus.

You keep your mystery shop scores high by keeping your employees happy. It's not rocket science.

at my store a lot of people do well on the mystery shops however there are a lot of grumpy people (no pun intended), but there are a lot of people who get shopped who just don't give a f***.

I think the "top" do too (treat people, hourly AND unit management badly)....I think the Unit Managers, for the most part, care a lot about associates. I think the "top" maybe not so much,  but it is too easy to fall into this attitude of "everybody is out to get me, they treat me like crap" mode. Don't fall victim to that! It is a business. I know that probably makes you mad but it's true. There are bad people in Kroger but guess what? there are bad people everywhere....big business is big business, plain and simple. Ya it sucks that they get a huge bonus but they get that because we get them the results they seek...so be pissed or be amazed that YOU had a part in helping someone get a bonus...but more importantly, be grateful you have a job and so do all the other associates you work with. Concentrate on the folks working next to you...not the ones above you and you will find much happiness.

Agree totally....If they (mystery shopper) come through the store, and every single associate talk to them, say "hi" or whatever, but there is ONE associate out of the 20 they pass that walks by them...yep, you guessed it...missed engagement on shop...grrrr. Oh well.
