In the Detroit area, Kroger and Meijer are covered by the same union but with much different contracts. Would it be possible to work at both places or would the union have something to say about that ?
Would there be any problems other than paying twice as much in dues to the same union ? Would one of them even hire someone working for the competition ?

Just my opinion her but do not think you would have any problem with the union but you would probably be paying dues from both employers. Now the problem would be working for the competition. If you are a full time or key person , in your store, then do not be surprised if Kroger would tell you to quit them or be terminated. It is not written down anywhere I can find but it has always been standard policy in any retail or business that you can not work another job for the competition. It has been done before and will come down primarily by what your store director thinks as if you work for the competition or not.
