Key Retailing is micro-management on a grand scale and does not allow different opinions or free thinking. Almost everyone I know fudges those numbers on those team stocking guides.

Key Retailing seems to go on the assumption that:

1.  You're an idiot

2.  Every store is exactly the same, and what will work in one store will work in another.

3.  See number 1.



My intelligence is insulted on a daily basis thanks to Kroger.


On the other hand, I don't think there is anything wrong with being friendly and offering help to customers.  That's just being decent, and having some common courtesy.  As one poster stated, just don't be creepy about it.

Key Retailing is the worst thing Kroger has done so far in my career with the company. It makes me sad to see what they have made this company, Hell, even this country. I can work my Department just fine with out Key Retailing.....and until Key Retailing it was FINE. How can people who supposedly are retail leaders suddenly not know a damn thing about their business? The idiotic **** they think is important baffles the **** right out of me. Key Retailing doesnt do anything. I do not need signs where to put my back stock or where to  park my nine foot worthless u-boat that takes up way too much space in my cooler. I do not need to micro manage my time with a team stocking guide. I do not need to bag or check or go get carts in the rain or snow because the front end cannot schedule enough hours or utilize them properly beause of ELMS (another waste).  I do not need more **** to do and not enough time to do it. You know Key Retailing does not work when the MF'ERS who implemented the program in your store can't make it work or even explain it. So anyways I am off to the BLUEHAIRBALL....

sadly, i don't see kroger ever learning, and probibly 10 years from now, kroger will be gone.
it's frustrating, because so many vet workers and managers, tried to tell them, this wasn't going to work. they got booted for their effort.
and the new engaging deal, customers are freaked out by people smiling like the joker, talking like barney the dinosaur, and bothering them with 50 questions.
there is a differance between being friendly, and being creepy

Nope you got right on the nail,  They got talked into some program and spent millions on it, and now they have no choice but try and get someone to make it work.  Knowing that it doesn't work at all.   Can't let the share holders know that they made a million mistake. When the share holders don't get their share back then there is move at corp.  can you see some CEO, VP ect.... being told bye you don't cut up to The Key.

The worst mistake Kroger has made IMO through Key Refailing is by focusing on engagement and friendliness to customers.  Don't misunderstand me, there is a fine line between being downright rude to customers and being a smiling face rehearsing the same lines every order. 

Kroger knows they cannot compete with Ole Wally on price, because Walmart will match prices with every store in the general area.  So Krogers response is to make their stores so friendly and engaging that customers will want to return.  It's extremely difficult to do that when most of the customers are either distracted with their cell phones or have children to attend to and are trying to get in and out as quick as possible.

We're not too far away from seeing RFID technology.  If Kroger jumps on the bandwagon, you will see UPC's and scanbars replaced with RFID tags that customers can scan products from their own carts and insert a USB drive into a kiosk to total the order and check out. 

The day Kroger realizes that engagement does not work and that their customers want to come in, buy their stuff, and get the hell out will be the day the above is implemented, and you will see even more jobs being cut.  It's a double negative.

once upon a time, kroger did not suck. when i started working for kroger, over 12 years ago, it was a good place to work. sure, tere were problems, like any job. but you could be proad to work for kroger. you did your job well, you were treated well.
now, kroger sucks big time. this is my opinion as to what happened.
i started noticing changes, right after 9-11. kroger like so many companies, r panicked about a possible ressesion,  actually HELPING start the ressesion, buy cutting people big time. customer service suffered. then, came cost cutting, and store's expense. repairs were no longer getting done. my store went to hell.sales slipped
now, instead of loking in at what caused sales to drop,poor staffing, no people to provide customer service kroger brass looked outward, and brought in "experts" the same idiots, that are now runing the company. kroger is dinking the coolaid, that remodel the stores to look like other grocery chains, spend tons of money retaining their poeple on new, untested ways of doing things, and when it doesn't work, it must be the workers fauly, buy new equipment, that have no effect on a customers shoping experience, or help make work eaiser.
basically, kroger changed everyting that worked, into stuf that diddn't, and if you question it, your gone. kroger lost a lot of vetern managers, supervisors, and workers to these new programs, and now there just arn't enough strong people left to hold things together, espicially since stores now run on s skelaton crew.
instead of looking at what started this trend, kroger continues down a fast track of destruction, refusing to admit, they made a mistake, then made it worse with more mistakes. must be the workers fault, cut them replace them.
and the circle goes on and on...
just my opinion. but then, im one of those vets that got cut, maybe i'm just bitter
