LIMITED AVAILABILITY
Permalink

So anyways... I work @ 642 in Harrisburg Illinois, and I was wondering how one goes about getting weekends off without limiting ones availability. Seems to me that we have a couple of people....really only one that irks the **** out of me....that can only work certain hours through the week and can't work weekends. He works a night job M-W-F.....None  on Saturday or Sunday. He threw a fit to get his hours to keep his insurance and the thing about it is that MOTHERTRUCKER NEEDS TO WORK SATURDAY OR SUNDAY TO GET THOSE REQUIRED HOURS. BUT NO.....THEY KISS HIS ASS AN WORK HIM THE HOURS HE WANTS. HE CRIES ABOUT NEVER GETTING ANY TIME WITH HIS WIFE BECAUSE OF HIS OTHER JOB.HE DOESN'T GIVE 2 ****S ABOUT ANYBODY ELSE SO FAR AS I SEE IT, HE CAN GO TO HELL.  HE NEEDS TO GO BACK TO HIS 3:30-12 SHIFT  ON TUESDAY AND THURSDAY  AND WORK SATURDAY NIGHT AND OR SUNDAY. HIS AUTHORITY AT HIS OTHER JOB MAKES FEEL SUPERIOR. SO ANYWAYS HOW CAN IT COME TO FRUITION? HOW CAN IT BE MADE FAIR? TELL ME YOU GREAT KROGER MINDS.......TELL ME

yeah it's a load of BS,  you and I have more seniority than the 2 people who don't work weekends and we have open avaliability!

for those of you who don't know our situation, it goes like this:  one person has another job and has limited avaliability on M, W, and F and is unavaliable on Sat. and Sun.

the other person can "only work til 4:30pm" thru the week and is unav. on the weekends.  Now the topic starter and myself have many years seniority on this person but we don't get special treatment, no, not us!  If we ever said we couldn't work weekends they'd slash our hours down to nothing, but they let these two get away with it.  SUCKS!

If they have limited availability and they were hired at that, then it's your managers fault that they can't work that. They never should have been hired. There really isn't anything that you can do to change that. You can however request time off. It isnt' your responsibility to make sure that the shifts are covered.

They can deny constant requests, but periodic requests for time off on certain days can't be ignored and denied all the time.

Again, a valuable asset is your union steward. I don't know the situation in your store, but I'm sure that there are ways to make the time off fair.

you make a good point.  the problem with one of these workers is that he or she is getting close to 40 hours while others with less seniority (although OPEN availibility) are not getting as many hours.  That said, I think they should be able to claim some hours, seeing as this person is limited EVERY day they work.

Just remember if you have more senority than them, you can claim whatever shifts you want. Now I dont' know how your contract works. Some you have to take the entire week, some you can pick and choose days.

Mine you can pick and choose days, you just have to be proficient in that job.

Hope this helps. but seriusly talk to your shop steward

Can a full time Kroger employee who is classified as a front line cashier that is helping out in another department (Deli clerk) trump other deli clerks hours. Also can they do this when they limit their availability to not have to work certain hours? In the State of Texas under Kroger Union Contract? Can someone help in this issue.  Can a Full time employee use their seniority to Harass a lesser seniority employee by claiming hours just because they can?  PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

In my store deli is a completely different contract... Usually if you're helping another department you can't claim their hours. Only your main department.
