Meat dept. and hours
Permalink

I work at store 452 which is in the memphis area. When i started i had great hours even though i am not full time i got close to full time hours. since i have started our dept manager has quit and and meat cutter got a promotion to dept head at another store. when they left the store  manager hired to part timers and the dept head has been filled. I don't understand why my hours and not just my hours all the part timers in that dept are only getting 16 for weeks now. it is xmas week i still have suck ass hours. is kroger trying to be cheap and keep all the profit for them self they think that we won't be busy. our store is one of the top 25 in sales in the whole company and our meat does 100,000 thousand a week easily without a holiday. so where are my hours that have suddenly vanished. I only get the required 16. I know it is not my performance because i am always complemented by the dept head and the store managers. does any one have any ideas?

seems to be the norm with this company lately.  they're wasting big $ on worthless schemes (key retailing) as well as others so they're trying to save money anywhere they can.  In the case if cutting your hours, they won't have to pay for your insurance since you won't have enough hours to qualify for it, so there's some money back in their pocket.  I'm not picking on you when I say this, but they'd also rather have a batch of young new hires who have no idea what they're doing, than have long-term ...and high paid... workers because it saves them money on payroll.  Were you well-trained?  I'm going to guess that you weren't,  thus putting you straight to work and saving them more money

oh,  and don't worry,  when you get covered up and way behind on your work, the company will give your department head (probably making around $16/hr) all the overtime he needs because they're stupid and can't see paying YOU to work instead of a higher paid employee.  they don't think about the numbers,  if you were the leader of a company, who would you rather pay to work?  the guy making $8/hr or the one making $16?

your right i was not well trained. When i started in may 2010 they just kinda acted like i should know what to do and how to go about doing. I have observed and asked many questions basically trained myself with the help and knowledge of a few good full timers that care and like me i assume. I have been offered to go to the meat cutting training thing kroger has i have talked to the district meat manager jeff gibson and he told me after the holidays we will get on it. I am wondering will it happen. I say that because i have been told a lot of things are gonna happen for me at this company and haven't seen any of it happen yet. Am i being naive in trusting what i have been told and hanging in there with these crap hours for no reason or is there a future for me with this company i really do like my job and want the knowledge and the career. I am a 28 year old ex construction worker i need something to fall back on and this seems like my chance.

Screw Kroger, When I first started last year I always got 40 hours every week and every 6 to 8th week I get 30. Now with this pre pack bullshi I get 25 top. They hire a new meat cutter and a new guy and they get more hours then I do. Will the union help me **** NO because the store manager is but buddies with the union. Why do I pay union dues if they don't help me? Also **** key retailing biggest bull**** since obama.
