During the last year i made full time status the assistant meat cutter told me i could choose a day as my regular day off I chose sunday which to my surprise was approved. The head meat cutter was off for 16 weeks due to an accident during this time and there was no problem. When he came back he decided that i shouldnt have this day off because it caused him to have to actually work which admittedly hates doing. Now him and all the rest of the full timers except me are getting time and half on sundays and of course they work this day since it doesnt count as overtime, I dont reciever that pay on sundays. He complained to the store manager my day was yanked and then he got on the assistant meat cutter telling him why did he even inform me that i could do this oh I forgot he is also the shop steward. He uses his position as head meat cutter and shop steward to his own gain and wont give you the information you need about your union rights if it conflicts with his own interests. Has anyone had similar experiences and what recourse is there?
sadly, it's happening more and more, and what i've learned, nothing can be done, unless someone wants something to be done, and your odds are iffy on that
Something most definantly be done. You are entitled to union information and representation. If you are not receiving that from your store steward, you should contact your Union rep. his or her name should be posted in your breakroom. If you don't know who it is, contact your union office, they will direct you to the right person. Good luck.
start calling other stewards if he wont give you the info you need, also call the union and explain your situation. I am a union steward!! Call the union and let them know what he is doing.
